 Topic: Moving Day with a 14mo?

We are moving house in a month. DH will be busy with farm related stuff so the house shift is down to me and my happy helpers for the most part...
Im wondering if anyone has any tip and tricks to deal with a 14 month old on the day? Am I better off dropping her off with her nana while we get everything loaded up etc?
Also, tips on settling a 14 month old into new surroundings would be helpful?

I would, if you can (from my own experience) - we moved with a 21 month old and it was such a handful  Get their room with all their things in set up first, and it doesn't seem to be too bad from there. We found that our son's first sleep in the house was bad, but after that he was more settled than we were

When we moved DP did all the hard work and I stayed with DD at her Nana's. She was about the same age as your DD is now. She settled in fine, one of the first things we did was get her room set up with cot, toys etc. I made sure that I took a box with familar things with me so that was easily found and unpacked. I also made her cot up with unwashed bedding so that it smelt familiar to her rather than washing it and making her cot with fresh sheets.
When we first got to the house we showed her around and talked about the different rooms (this is the lounge, this is your room etc) then let her explore. We still had lots of unpacking to do and she loved playing with all the boxes!
I definately thing getting all the heavy lifting and moving done without DD was easiest, having her there for the unpacking was fine as long as she had some familiar toys to play with and her room to go to for some quiet time.

I would drop them at nana's....you will have so much to do it will be hard to keep an eye on a busy toddler

I agree with the others re. getting their room set up first etc.
Also, if possible, try to take them around to the house a few days before you move. Not always do-able but when we moved with our boy a similar age we kept a box of toys at teh new house and tried to go around for a few days in a row to do a bit of unpacking and get him used to it.
Also, heaps of talking about new house/new room/explaining what is going on etc

I have moved 4 times with DS, def drop DD at nanas while you do the actual move, but i always found having DS "help" to set up his room, especially his bed made him settle really quick, never had any problems.

I was 9 months pregnant and had a 14 month old when we moved from our rental back to mum and dads(into a wee flat on their house), it would have been far to hard to have him with us(whether I was pregnant or not), so my mum had him for the day. He would have got bored and grumpy being lugged around and it would have been too stressful for me.
