Topic: Can anyone help with catnapping?     Posted: 15 February 2007 at 4:42pm |

Now that Benjy is sleeping better at night his day sleeps have gotten really wonky.
He can't seem to sleep much longer than 20-40 minutes and some days he barely sleeps at all.
He doesn't seem to be suffering for it but it seems a bit wrong to catnap all over the show instead of have a couple of decent sleeps. (Plus it would give me a bit of a break!)
Has anyone successfully retrained a catnapper?

Ohhh, I want to know that too! Steph doesn't sleep much during the day either which leaves me with no time to do other things. But good to hear Benjy is sleeping better at night.

Maya was a big catnapper, but slept brilliantly at night. I never figured out how to get her to sleep longer so I just went with it - it did mean I never got anything done during the day, but at least I could count on having my evenings to myself (and boy by 7pm was I glad to see the back of her some days!)

OMG i would also love to no if anyone has been successful?? Mya is a serial catnapper too and i would love even just a solid hours nap from her!!! the only way i get her to sleep that long is if shes attached to the boob, which does not help me in the slightest!!! Although i admit i lay down and napped with her today, but that was greatly needed as for the past 2 weeks Mya has gone from being perfect all nite to waking 4-6 times!!! Have had her on solids as well as breast milk all week but it hasnt made any difference

Taine and jake were both like that, but now sleep two hours at a time usually. I have no clue why or how that happened....I did tend to ignore a lot of initial crying - someimtes they would go back to sleep. More luck than skill I suspect with my kids.

the only thing I did do, was give them regular naptimes. Taine sleeps at 9:30, and at 2:30. this dfoes change if he's awoken some god-awful time, or if he didn't sleep much at 9:30, I'll put him down at 1pm, instead,

Alyssa is exactly the same! The most she will sleep is 40 minutes if I'm lucky, but usually only about 15 minutes twice a day on average. Sometimes not at all... She is very grumpy most of the time because of less naps during the day, although I'm happy she still sleeps really well at night at least.

The only thing I have ever been able to do to "force" her to sleep is when I have had her in the car when I'm driving somewhere a decent distance. Obviously that doesn help when you want to be home doing stuff though

Yes Jaxon is like that most days. When he does go down its only for about 20 mins at a time. Somedays hes really good adn sleeps a good 2-3 hrs at a time. He sleeps all through the night now but that is when he goes down at 8.30pm.
