Topic: Depo and TTC (coming off)     Posted: 08 July 2011 at 3:20pm |

   Hi,

I am due for my next Depo Jab on the 14th of July but DP and I have decided we'd like to start TTC #2 instead. I have had a total of 3 jabs and this would have been my 4th...

Does anyone know if it has lasting effects or builds up in your body?

 What are you experiences?

 Cheers.

Each person is different. Were you on Depo prior to conceiving your first child? If so, did your cycles return quickly, and conceive easily?

I was on Depo on and off for about 7-8 years, and when I came off it to start TTC, my cycles took 6 months to start up properly, then I took another 4.5 years to conceive. So yes, it can last in your body, if your body is particularly sensitive to things (which sadly we don't find out until after we've taken them).

Hopefully you won't have that issue, and your cycles will return soon.

Nope, was just condoms pre having my daughter.

Oh, that's a long time! I haven't had AF return yet and I did miss 2 Depo shots and tried the mini pill but was hopeless at taking it at and no AF during that time.

 Guess time will tell!

Really hope things get back to normal for you quickly! AFM I had 2 shots in '09. Came off in July/August and didn't get cycles back properly til early last year- vitex helped. Since then they've been slightly irregular (between 25 and 29 days) but can't say yet whether it's affecting fertility still- we're on our 3rd month trying. May be UTD this time or it may take another year! Really hoping not though haha. Good luck for TTC

I was on the depo from the age of 15 to 21. Cycles returned a year later and 6 mnths after that I did fall pregnant. I have more faith in coming off the depo than the implanon I came off last year! :)

Depo stays in your system for six months and after that it's how good your body is at sorting itself out.

It depends on your age as well. It can take up to 18months for you periods to return to a regular cycle after stopping depo, that been said you can still get pregnant if you are late with your depo.

I definately wouldn't use depo between children or if you are 30 or older and thinking about having children in the near future.
God luck with the TTC journey

It all depends, I came off depo after over 10 years on and off and got PG 6 mths later the first month trying I also got my AF back straight away as regular as clockwork. My doc did tell me that it can take 18mths for the depo to get out of your system. Personally I would not take it again till after I have finished having kids and then will be talking DH into have the snip lol
