     Topic: Bumps & Bruises...     Posted: 04 March 2008 at 4:36pm |

Is it quite normal for the bumps & bruises stage to coincide with the crawling/standing/walking stage?

I swear Lucas is a little accident prone ...it's really starting to bug me how often he's bumped his head lately, whether it be crawling into something/misjudging where he is going OR losing his balance when standing/trying to walk.

Half the time i think he is bumping his head on the wall/cot deliberately just to get attention because when I go running to him to pick him up he starts laughing!

Has anyone else had this? Is it normal? (Please reassure me its not the first/early signs of ADD????)

Sam has bumped her head heaps lately too so don't worry - it seems to be normal. Her head has big marks on it from falling into tables and other furniture poor girl!!

I am also trying not to 'save' her too much if she looks about to topple as I want her to learn her limits. I will grab her it there is chance of her really hurting herself though

LOL yup, and some kids are more accident prone than others. My Mercedes is always covered in bumps and bruises, but Sienna never seems to get them unless it's from Mercedes pushing/biting/hitting her.

I am still considering a crash helmet for her, it's just not a good look when each bruise is replaced by another before it has completely faded, oh and mittens so she doesn't keep shutting her fingers in drawers

Yes Lucas is bad for jamming his fingers in drawers often also (especially when we are out at family & friends places where nothing is baby proofed!)

But surely they are causing some kind of trauma to their skull every time they bump their head? ...I'm sure I'd have a mega headache if I was to follow Lucas around and bump my head as much & as hard as he does
They're tough little things aren't they!

Yeah totoally normal. Andrew was forever covered in them - still is every now and then if he has a bad day at preschool.

Babies just seem to bounce really well lol, that's why it beggars belief the injuries that some people inflict on poor innocent kids considering how hard it is to hurt them, there's no way they can call it accidental.

I heard somewhere that a child's pain threshold is at it's highest before the age of 2... don't know if its true or not, but might go some way to explaining why they don't seem to notice most of their bumps!

Oh, and Kiya still comes scarily close to wacking something as she rushes around, Josiah just misses regularly, and Xavier has regular bruises from walking into stuff (including a line down his forehead from hitting the edge of the door yesterday)

Rhiannon has had a bruise or bump of some sort or another
since could move, and its especially bad when she is teething as she just trips over everything
