I wasn't sure if I should post this her or under TTC..anyway...here it is....

DH and I have been waiting for this month to come for ages       ...we are supposed to be trying for our 2nd baby!
However, we still have some debt we would like to pay back.
It took us 2 years to get pg the first time and I am now 36yrs (sigh) so my dilemma is......
Do we start trying now and looking at statistics etc it should take us over 6 months, which is fine coz that would mean the debt would be paid and we can start saving for when I am on leave as we can't afford to be on DH's income only with debt and need some extra money to keep us going.
(if we get pg straight away,it would not be good financially).
 or
do we wait until the debt is paid which will probably take up to 6 months, BUT, then it may take us ages to get pg which means the older I get, the more risky and the bigger the gap between babies (and the more impatient I get too
Grr I wish I had that crystal ball!
What would you do??

I would personally start trying in three months, but see where you can cut some of your spending so maybe you can pay off that debt a little quicker?

Depending on what contraception you've been using it could totally take a while for things to get back to normal, sure did for me on the norimin pill anyway!

Might be a good compromise and make you feel a little better about not leaving it the whole 6 months :)

I personally would just do it, but that's they way we've lived our lives. We just got a mortgage and had some other debt when we got pg the first time (planned) and could only just afford a 2nd child (also planned through fert treatment) when we got pg with #2. The way I see it, I would rather struggle for a couple of years, or a few months in your case, than put off and have the 'what if's'. Especially if it took you that long last time.

Start now! If the debt is only going to take you 6 months to pay of by the time you get UTD and have baby it will paid off

I would start now too! You don't know how long it will take to conceive and like you said only a few more month to pay off your debt...

Go for it. We're in a similar position, as its turned out the debt I was worried about will be all gone by the time I go on maternity leave, which will make us able to stretch PPL a lot further, will be less spent on travel as well as I will be staying home and not going to work each day.

It took us 1 year to conceive this baby, and of course adding in the 9 months she's taking to cook.

I figure if worse comes to worse, and we can't manage I can always find work once our daughter is born and find a solution that fits around her needs and ours.

I agree with everyone else, if you conceive straight away, you still have 9 months to sort out any debts!! Having said that, we went off birth control a few months ago, thinking it would take 6-7 months to get pregnant, as it has both times before. Murphy's law strikes again, we got pregnant straight away!

Yeah, I say do it. Somehow you just manage. DH and I struggle financially with me being at home but I wouldn't have it any other way... things don't go (financially or otherwise it seems) the way you always plan but I would imagine family is more important to you than finances and somehow you will find a way. Better that than perhaps losing the opportunity to conceive and have another child!

 How exciting for you!!

Which decision would you regret the most? Paying off debt but having to wait before you ttc? Or ttc & possibly getting utd straight away & still having debt? I personally would ttc- you're not going to look at that gorgeous bubba wishing you'd waited, =).

I think I would go for it... we have had something financially untoward happen while on mat leave and then not long after finding out we were pg with number 2 and its just amazing what you can live without to survive!!!

And to threadjack for a moment... Congrats Queenbean!!!! I somehow missed your wonderful news (or preggy brain erased it from my memory).

I would start trying now, you might conceive straight away or it may take a couple of years to conceive.
