 Topic: Bumbo... Yes or No??

I have been given one of these to trial, so far i do like it, Angus can actually sit in it really well, even though is he so young. But im wondering if they are really worth the money? His bum fits in it quite well and im wondering how long he will actually last in it...
Anyone that owns one got pros and cons to share??

I wouldn't... Well not at his age yet, anyhow. Dangerous.
I know lots of people rave about them, but if he is not developmentally ready to sit, then he shouldn't be sitting up in one, especially not at 2 months old, not good for his back.
However, I know people who love them for taking out so their sitting toddlers can have somewhere safe to sit and a good way to get them to sit still for feeds!

Kyle hates his so we don't really use it, he just back arches/stands up and nearly falls out of it. Spencer squeezes himself into it and then gets it stuck on his arse and crawls off with it still on his bum so was worth the money just to watch that!

We had one for Issy but she was quite a lot older than two months before we "sat" her in it.
When she was a little older it came in handy .. and we have kept it for number two.

I'm pretty sure they are fine to use from 3 or 4 months, I don't remember which. We used it til about 10 months old

We started using it, infrequently, when Jackson was about 3 months old.
We now use it all the time. I often will give Jackson breakfast or lunch in it and I pop him in it after he has had a big milk feed to settle his tummy. If I don't, he rolls on his front and invariably spews everywhere.
He likes it, but can now get out of it if he wants to.

I  the Bumbos with the gremlins coz they didn't sit independently till 8 mths, but they got bored with lying on their playmat so it was good to be able to sit them up with some toys. I also used them to feed them in before they were upright enough for the highchair.
I still have them but we've hardly used them at all for lil miss coz she sat quite well from quite young and was on the move much earlier.
They do go thru a stage where they can arch themselves out of it like Cuppatea said, that's when I stopped using them with the gremlins.
I didn't use them as early as 2 mths tho, I think the gremlins were between 4-5 mths when they started in them and lil miss was about 3 1/2 as she had better head control.

Thanks for your replies. I have only sat him in it very briefly just to see what it was like. But he is too young to be in it un-aided. But i just wasnt convinced how much room there was for him when he was older as he seems quite snug in it now.
Not sure its quite worth me paying $100 for one for only a couple of months use.

Are they $100? Wow! I only paid about $AU50 for mine for the gremlins, that was before they were available here tho.

They were designed by a chiropractor i think so they should be okay development wise, if used for short amounts of time
I think the recommended age is 4months though...
I haven't used one, but they look so cute =)

I never bothered with one, and didn't miss having one. Before Ella could sit up byself I used her bouncer and she was happy with that.

I hired one from baby on the move for 2 or 3 months. That was enough time for us.
Hubby wasn't keen on me buying one & I have to agree that they're way overpriced for what they are.

I got one off trademe for $20 i wouldnt pay $100 for one, i mostly use ours when we go outside to play with the dog and use to inside when i was making dinner etc and R wasnt happy lying down and wanted to see me but now he is sitting he is happy to sit unaided but i do take it outside when we go with the dog just coz i dont want him donking his head on the drive lol but yea wouldn't pay the hundy for it.....
