Some questions as I can't find the info I'm looking for anywhere.
If I were to leave Harper with DH for an afternoon and wanted to leave him with some EBM to feed when should I express that milk? Just before I go? What if I've just fed H or am just about to? I have quite a lot of milk but worry about how this would affect my supply and if not timed right I might not get enough still. I do have a bit stashed up already but I'm sure there will be a need for more.
And then if DH wanted to go out with Harper and take the EBM with him does he warm it up before he goes and then put it in the insulated bag?

If you express off some milk and freeze it, your DH can just heat from frozen - then you won't have to worry about when to express. I'd just take express off the side that bubs doesn't feed off in the morning. Chuck it in the freezer, do that every day for a week and you've got 7 feeds sorted for your DH to re-heat when needed - just place in hot water and shake every couple of minutes so it heats evenly. If he wants to go out, you're best to get a chilly bag or little chilly bin and take cold, once milk is heated it's only good for the feed there and now.

I used to express straight after a feed. So DD would have had both sides and then I would express. Might only get a litttle bit, but it soon adds up 
If your DH wanted to go out with your DS and take the EBM, I would heat it up and put it in the insulated bag, as long as the time frame wasn't too long.
I used to time going out so it was just after a feed...but I know that life doesn't always work like that!

Breastmilk lasts 5 days refrigerated and 12 hrs unrefrigerated. I mention this because govt guidelines are much stricter as they are based on formula longevity. Breastmilk is live so the natural bacteria make it very safe.

NEVER shake bm, it destroys the properties in the milk! Gently swirl it until all the fat has mixed together.

I found that my bm never lasted very long at all. If I didn't get it in the fridge immediately it went off very fast and it would only last a day in the fridge.
Its good to express after you feed and freeze the milk so that you have a emergency supply.

Ben only feeds off one side each feed. My boob is still dripping milk all over his face long after he has had enough. I express off this boob rather than the other one...
What are peoples thoughts about this?
Heating BM from frozen? How long does this take?
How much should you express ie how much makes a feed??

I think that is fine to do. So long as you alternate which breast he is feeding off. It doesn't take that long to heat frozen breast milk. All you do is place the container with the frozen bm in it in a jug with freshly boiled water, swirl the milk gentle while it defrost to remix the cream and milk together. Should only take about 5 mins max. How much your wee man will take will vary but I always froze me breast milk in 50ml and 100ml lots, that way you don't waste much.

Just a wee query: how can you tell when EBM has gone off? i.e there seems to be so many variations on how long it can last in the fridge, so how can you tell?

It smells different and looks a different colour, it usually curdles and your baby won't have a bar of it!

I express while I am feeding off one side. My DS only feeds off one side for his early morning feed, so while he is doing that I express from the other. Find that this is a really effective way to get quite a bit of EBM (enough for one feed). And because I am doing it at the same time, it means that for that early morning feed I am not up as long as I was when I used to express after his feed.
