Topic: Gym or do a night course?     Posted: 27 January 2009 at 3:09pm |

I am a little bit confused
I have two options. Join a gym or do a night course.
I know that gyms are very expensive and we don't have that money at the moment, but it would be great to go and do a few classes.
A night course also would be fantastic, gets me out of the house. Want to do a dressmaking course.
 What would you do?

I'd do the dressmaking course myself. If you don't really want to go to the gym you won't go as often as you should and as you have to usually sign contracts you could end up wasting a lot of money. A lot of colleges do night courses in dressmaking.

Yeah I was going to say do the course, then perhaps go for walks or something during the day. Or even a swim?

Yep, I agree. Do the course and go for a walk. That way you get the best of both worlds and are only paying for one thing - one thing that will be highly useful i'll add.

BTW, these dress making courses, do they teach you sewing right from scratch? I've always wanted to learn but I don't know waft from weft but I'd love to be able to make something from scratch.

Dana, they usually offer different levels of sewing classes in different semesters, but I think would probably always accomodate absolute beginners. And like you say it is useful, I picked up some cool fabric for $5 a metre last week and made myself an awseome a-line skirt for about $7. My sewing skills are very average but an A-line skirt is so simple it is hard to go wrong.

I agree with everyone else. If you are anything like me you will put off going to the gym and waste all that money.
That reminds me - I should look into one of those courses myself, FH bought me a sewing machine a couple of years ago, I started with a hiss and a roar but haven't touched it for at least 12 months. Would love to be able to confidently sew something

The course sounds like fun but if even that sounds like too much "work" why don't you just arrange a fortnightly coffee date with a few friends - go out to a nice cafe and have a night off.
