after we gave henry a shower before bed tonigh i was puting his nappy on and noticed that his lips were a dark blue colour (kinda like when you're really really cold). He was nice and toasty warm though, the heater was on in the room and he'd just had a warm shower. He has a mild cold atm - runny nose, a small cough etc but nothing major. and he seems completely himself - wriggling around while i dressed him, laughing at daddy being silly. Any ideas on what this could be??
 Thanks ladies

   I would call Healthline on 0800611 116

Hope it's nothing serious.. maybe something circulation related.. but I'm just guessing

I thought that blue lips was a sign that they had wind?

That's the old wives tale that is sometimes right, but blue lips can also be the sign of more significant issues. Unfortunaely my MW always said it was wind, turned out to be much more serious. Hence why I suggest people get it checked GP just to be on the safe side.

i kept checking him through the night. He woke at 11pm for a feed and his lips werent blue then so i put him back to bed. I think ill keep an eye on it and if they come back ill ring the GP.

Flissty - if you dont mind me asking what was the more serious problem?

Id completely forgotten about the wind thing , his lips did used to go blue when he was real young for wind but not this dark and it was more between his lips and nose rather than his actual lips

Daniel had heart issues. Sorry, I don't mean to scare but I am just always cautious about anything health related - we're mums not doctors (and even though there are drs in here, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't give health advice on line!).

You sound like you're doing exactly the right thing! Odds are it'll just be a one off but it's always good to just keep an eye out.

Yea my bro had heart issues too but it was found pretty quickly (dr heard it on a stethoscope during a routine check). His lips got blue like everyone else, just more often. If you see it again, check it out with your GP

I agree with everyone else about getting it checked. Mercedes used to have blue episodes when she was small, but a lot smaller than your lil one, around 3-6 weeks. She had two apnoeas where she actually stopped breathig but they never found out what the cause of it or the blueness was and it hasn't happened since. She would go blue around the mouth, lips and eyes.

What colour is his tongue when his lips are blue? If his tongue is going blue as well that's a sign it could be something more serious.
