Topic: Motel room versus apartment     Posted: 24 August 2009 at 9:57pm |

Help! I need to book accommodation for xmas - not sure which way to go with a 14 month ago.   Will a single room with bathroom be big enough (not much room space), Queen bed and a single or spend a bit more and go for an apartment complete with kitchen, separate living from the bedroom. We won't be in the room alot at all - mainly just to sleep. The motel will heat up food for bubs if needed. It will cost more to go for the apartment ..., need to also get a hire car ...

I would go with the apartment. Unless of course you'll be going to bed same time as the 14month old.
Personally I would get cabin fever if I had no place to escape/relax and watch TV after bubs was gone to bed.

We booked a one bedroom motel and Jake had the bedroom while we slept in the lounge. Worked great, was really cheap and didn't affect his sleeps at all.

Definitely go for a one bedroom place. Can you get a motel with a kitchenette and a separate bedroom?

I've stayed at quite a few places with DS, and it is nice to be able to put him to bed, and then close the door and watch telly in another room without worrying about the noise.

Either or but if you want him/her to sleep....definitely a separate bedroom....TV attracts kids eyes no matter how much you try to block them

We've hired an apartment for our holiday. My main thing was to have a kitchen because we won't be eating out at night and then I can prepare food/baking for during the day for Lil as well. Oh and the separate bedroom so we don't have to tiptoe around 1 room if she is asleep.

we always go for apartments now...while a hotel would be lovely we will save those for childfree nights away - yeah right!!
if u are in one room the kid just wont sleep!!! and you will need to turn off tv as others have said etc...try one night putting bubs down in lounge with you and see how that goes at home...you will then book an apartment!
we do 2 bedroom ones, altho we did one 1 beddie up north and put portacot in our room then until she was asleep then put it out our door into hall (small apartment) once we went to bed. meant we could talk, watch tv, etc etc...
kitchen just means that you can do brekkie - which helps a LOT esp if u are not rushing out somewhere...or dont want to spend a fortune on brekke somewhere. We normally take cereal and have milk and means we can reheat etc if something happens and we are room bound...as happens with kids onholidays! one night in queenstown we ordered pizza delivered as bubs was grotty and tired - got her dinner in kitchenette done and put her to bed - whcih meant we could not go out....gotta love being a parent at those times!

Have you looked on the holiday homes websites as they are usually a lot cheaper than a apartment run by a motel complex.
We use the holidayhouses and also the holidayhomes websites and haven’t had a bad experience.
Granted we haven't used any of them since becoming parents but cost wise they are GREAT

We've usually booked one bedroomed motels and put Caleb in the bedroom in a portacot with us. We can put him to bed while we watch TV in the evening and most have cooking facilities. The advantage with most motel rooms is you can back right up to the door which makes unpacking easy. Hotel rooms are a nightmare because you have to carry everything so far to get to your room. I haven't tried apartments though.

Motel definitely, we cooked, had heaps of room, & came & went as we wanted. Parking outside. 2 storied place, secure looks. 1 bedroom with spa, & 3 beds in the lounge, that were couches, nice big bathroom....I want to go back
