Hi there
I have been working as a nanny off and on over the paseed 10+ years and i'm due with our first bubba at the end of June. I would love to hear from anyone else who has made the transition to hear how the 'bonding' went as i have heard it can be a challenge - as all the other babies you care for get given back and aren't really yours.

thanks

I was a nanny for about 10 years as well and to be honest I was dreading what was coming when I was pg with Leah. The last family I had looked after the youngest (i looked after him from 9 weeks till 3.5yrs) didn't sleep through the night till he was 2....I used to get stories every day of how hard the evening and nights were, and when I had looked after the kids for a weekend it seemed endless.

My kids aren't like that, I don't dread that time of day, maybe cos i'm home with them so they aren't fighting for attention, I love having the sleepy cuddles and smiles as they go to bed etc. I had absoloutely no trouble bonding with either of them....it was instant love.

I was a nanny for around 10 years on and off before I had Callum. The hardest thing I found was that I put a lot more pressure on myself to "get things right" once C arrived but after a good chat with our Health Visitor I managed to relax a bit more. Even now though I find myself getting frustrated that C can escape when I'm changing his nappy - thought I had that bit figured out!

I wouldn't say I felt an "instant" bond with Callum although I put that down to his being prem more than anything else. We are definitely bonded now, he's really affectionate and funny and we have a blast

I bonded fine with Jake but also had higher expectations on myself... "I should know what I am doing".

I will say it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be... I remember how tired I was at the end of the day and sometimes miss being able to hand him back LOL

I nannied overseas and also worked here for about 30 families before that - I made a decision in my late 20s that I was not looking after any more kids until I had my own...I think that break helped me a lot!

I bonded over the period of the pregnancy - i think that is where the major difference was for me...she was ALL mine...whereas even the 6 weekers i nannied were someone elses - even when I lived in I had no deciding powers etc...I have control over how I parent and what she does etc...and our bond is amazing!

I wonder now if I would ever find someone I would trust enough with my baby as a one on one...I think I was just special LOL! I am still in touch with some families today and am so proud of the kids (some in their 20s now EEK!!!) and how they have turned out....esp when I watched them from babies thru to early pre teens regularly...ones even followed into my career!
