DP has a whole pile of airpoints that need to be used up and we are thinking of going on holiday sometime this year.

He wants to go to Australia (to see his bro) but Is open to going a bit further afield. We were looking at the US but not sure at this stage. We have both been there heaps so we might wait until she is a little bit older.

I am after feedback, recommendations on traveling with a toddler (she will be 1 1/2 in the middle of the year). I'm keen on Malaysia, Thailand, Bali, Vietnam or where ever really. Somewhere where we can do some relaxing but also some traveling.

Thanks

Bali is awesome with kids! We went when DS was 10 months and it was great. The baliense are awesome with kids and DS was a hit everywhere we went. I have been to Bali about 10 or more times and love the place so it was easy for us as we know where everything is etc but def recommend it as a place to take kids.

We are heading to Vietnam this year hopefully. Mums been and said that it would be just as good as Bali with kids

We have done Singapore, Malaysia, Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau and Korea - obviously pre children....we are heading to back to Bali for our first 'family' holiday later this year. I think that (from what I have seen) it's a great place to travel with wee ones.

Cambodia would probably be the only one I'd be a little 'iffy' about taking kids - but things may have changed in the last 5 years since we were there. And if you have a big budget then it would prob be fine (we stayed pretty budget!)

Good Luck!

Singapore is fab with a baby

We've been to Thailand, Bali and Malaysia with C. Thailand was by far the friendliest and easiest IME, but Bali and Malaysia were pretty good as well. We're hoping to do Vietnam some time this year and will go back to Thailand for long weekends too - I it! We went to Cambodia before we had C, I would take him to Siem Reap but perhaps not Phnom Penh.

The flight over will probably be the sucky part.. but totally doable. Once you're here - carrier, lightweight pram and portacot are all you really need (although we've always had a cot provided in every place we've stayed in - budget and exxy).

How long do you want to be away for? You could easily spend a couple of weeks doing Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore

Haven't been anywhere with kids, but when we were on honeymoon in Thailand we saw heaps of tourists with young kids, so it must be friendly. have heard Bali is too, like Peanut said.

Lonely planet put out a book called 'travelling with children' that has a lot of good practical advise for babies, toddlers, older children and teens. It summarises each region and there are quite comprehensive summaries of the pros and cons of each region. It may be worth a read before you make any firm decisions.

we went to phuket when Jake was 8 months old. would recommend getting a room with a bedroom, cause when he was ready to go to sleep, we were not, but had to sit there in darkness from7pm. Not so good.

the place itself was fabulous. we were on patong beach which is a well-known party area, but had no troubles at all. food was average tho. we stayed in a place which had breakfast included. THAT was great. The thai people LOVED jake and asked us to come back the following year (could have been drumming up business). we went in June and it was super cheap. Supposedly it was the rainy season, but we had lovely days for the five days we were there. jake went swimming everyday, and we just loved it. would love to go back but flights from here are pricey. we flew from japan and paid...$1500 for the three of us which included all our accommodation as well.

Oh, the only bad thing - we went 6 months after the tsunami and the footpaths were TERRIBLE with a cheap pushchair. that may be fixed - i don;t know if it was damage or just the way it had always been.

AND we rode an elephant with jake which put him to sleep.

i would like to go to Hong Kong with the kids

The footpaths are nearly always bad

The first time we went to Phuket we went in June and we had 5 days of sunshine too. We stayed at Karon Beach (far away from Patong lol) and it was lovely but still nice and cheap. Good food along the beach as well. Kata Beach (next to Karon) is also meant to be great for families.

We took Callum to Khao Lak which is about an hour's drive from Phuket airport (not on Phuket Island though). It was really badly hit in the tsunami but is really lovely - much quieter than other beaches, beautiful beach, good range of accommodation.

Lizzle I really want to go to HK later this year and take C to Disneyland!
