Topic: Am I being paranoid (warning TMI) Posted: 20 July 2007 at 8:21am |
Am I being paranoid.....the last 3 mornings at pretty much exactly the same time I have had really bad tummy cramps followed by a fairly loose bowel movement....then this morning I have been having really bad pains in the side of my tummy (only on one side). It feels like muscular pain, but every so often I get a really sharp pain. Have felt pretty dreadful and v tired for a couple of days with really bad (a lot worse that normal) hearburn....
Should I be looking out for anything in particular, or do you think I am just being paranoid.
My mw is away, so am reluctant to contact her back up as I havent even met her yet!!

I'd give her a call anyway, to put your mind at rest if nothing else. It could just be everything moving around as bubs gets bigger and takes up more room, but nothing like getting it checked out to reassure you.

I second that - and if you cant get her or dont want to call her I would say go to your local a and e and get checked out...they might send you to hosp and akld has the pre admissions clinic - i spent a few days pre Gabriellas arrival there - and they were so reassuring and wonderful...
please go get checked out!
BIG HUGS!!!

I feel a bit 'fobbed off'. I just called the back up m/w and although she was lovey and told me to stay in bed, she didnt think it was anything pregnancy related and that I should prob go and see my GP. I LOVE my GP, so am going to give them a call and see if they can see me today - I think I just want to get BP and everything checked. I had a 'faint' incident at work yesterday and DH had to come and pick me up, (I got really major hot, sweaty flush and then thought i was going to faint)....so am definitley going to go and get BP checked.

Get the mw to check your bp then, otherwise you'll have to pay for it
If you were further on, it would seem like prep for labour. But I'm wondering if you might have eaten something funny?

I am sorry I am no help with regards to your other query, but I totally understand how scary this fainting business is!

BusyMum - the backup m/w said she didnt think it was pregnancy related, she thought I might have a viral infection or something. I am not overly worried about paying at my GP (I dont think he will charge me full price if he can deem it to be 'pregnancy' related!)
I guess I will just feel better once someone has actually 'seen' me...if that makes sense! Am going to go and lay on the sofa now and dont plan on moving until I have to!
Thanks for all the advice ladies!

i too had one of those near faints....about the same time! My specialist saw me straight away - well actually i told him i was busy and would come in later in day - got there and he sent me straight to auckland hosp!!! we sat on monitor and got checked out and was so reassuring to know whever was going on had cleared itself...also got made to do test for gest diabetes after that (think that was my second test!!!) just in case...
that midwife sounds useless...go doc and get him to refer you to hosp if nec...dont take any chances! I would also change the back up mw if I was you!

I fainted twice when I was pregnant with Maya, as in full on faint, but that was mostly the heat as it was January and I was the size of a small whale. Very scary tho, and Willie didn't trust me to drive after that. Good luck with your GP Sam!

I hope all goes well with the Dr SimSam - I don't think it ever hurts to be a bit paranoid ... better safe than sorry and all that! Take care

The earliest appt I could get was 3.30, so have been on the sofa all day (the cat thinks its her birthday!!!)
Am def feeling better than I did this morning, the pain in my tummy has gone from a pain to a dull ache now, but still dont feel right. DH was sweet he came home from work at lunchtime to bring me lunch and make sure I was okay.
Will let you know how we get on at the Drs! Thanks for all the support!

So Dr was great...very reassuring which is nice.
Blood pressure, urine, temperature etc all fine. He checked heartbeat, had a good feel around and couldnt find anything wrong.
Cant explain the feeling faint, upset tummy or the general unwell-ness....but somehow I feel better for having heard the heartbeat and having BP checked. He told me the things to watch out for as well.
I guess I forgot I was allowed to talk to my GP as well as my m/w....and he reminded me that they are available 24hrs, if I need them. I guess because he has been my GP for 10 years I feel pretty comfortable with him....so good to remember he is there!
(and he didnt charge me!)
He did just say take it VERY easy over the next couple of days, so a quiet weekend for us.

Hey SimSam, glad to hear that all is well with bubs. There's lots of funny bugs going around at present, so could be one of those. It's a good reason to have a nice relaxing weekend!! I hope that you're feeling better soon.
