But I can't deal with my dad anymore! I get so frustrated with him and I know its probably all my side.

I moved back home to help save money just before christmas and with in 2weeks of being here I had convinced mum to get a new computer and broadband internet... Yes they have been on dial up all this time and OMG I could kill myself.

Knowing the different broadband packages as I do because I have done research for myself. I explained it all to him and he STILL had to go and do his own research. They were with telecom for their phone and ihug for dial up paying $30for unlimited dial up. I had to explain it to him that he was being penalised for being with two different networks.

I went through their old desktop and found that it was utter s**t the ram was only 180kb so no wonder the computer was going as fast as a nana on a walking frame.

Now the new computer has decided to die. It turns on powers up fine but the keyboard/mouse etc don't work. In otherwords the usb ports have died don't know why. My brother looked at it and tried my mouse on it no go. Tried the usb ports at the front still no go. Dad has called the company and is trying to walk through it. He has opened up the manual and looked at what happens when you first log on which I set up.

He has actually come up to me and asked what the login name was and password. Ummm that would be what you put in everytime you log on.

Why does this frustrate me so much?

He thinks he is so technilogically savvy but he always has to get his it guys at work to do things that myself or older brother can do! He's concerned about losing emails now. He doesn't even flipping well work. Its all to do with friends and crap and his insurance stuff.

Seriously why does this frustrate me so much?

VENT VENT VENT

He does sound like he is trying though!! My dad is the same....yet everytime they forget their login for their net/email etc. they ring me to ask what it is Good thing I have a pretty good memory!!! I just think myself lucky that he and mum are both willing to move with technology instead of being stuck in the dark ages....even if they need a little bit of help every now and then (and like to think they know it all in the process).

And I would be worried about losing insurance stuff too...just because it's crap to you, doesn't mean it's crap to him

Hehe sounds like my dad! When we lived with them for a while it drove me bonkers!

Speak of the devil - he's just rung me up to tell me to post something on the TM messageboards for him because he's banned lol - now that drives me nuts!

(Does your dad do the triple click thing on the computer too? Like the page isn't loading quickly so they keep clicking and then wonder why they have 10 pages come up all at once )

When my brother came back to NZ he stayed with my parents, he just got his own phone line, internet connection and computer.

So instead of getting frustrated (after all it is your Dads computer and connection), just get your own - problem solved.

haha glad I'm not the only one that gets driven bonkers.

Thing is mum just knows to trust us. my older brother and I are fairly technically savvy and can figure things out, dad just won't trust what we tell him. Dad doesn't use the internet aside from emails. Unless he has to check something for himself because he doesn't believe one of us kids

The insurance is income insurance its not policies or anything and mainly correspondence which he types up prints then posts. (Why he doesn't do two copies is beyond me if he's sending it all hardcopy anyway)

The computer guys have told him how to reset windows, which is fine, except he hasn't explained himself verywell and the fact that he can't use the keyboard or mouse. All he needed to say is that the usb ports aren't working and that he can't reset it as he doesn't have use of anything. He at first thought windows had frozen (they have windows 7 home premium so yep probably has a few bugs in it but not as much as vista) he didn't even try to trouble shoot at all.

Honestly I don't know why it gets to me so much lol

I have my own computer. The connection is purely under his name. I am the one that is looked onto help him. The modems are mine, I set them up.

Its the same with anything in the house. Their dvd player wasn't working, so I had to fix it the tv reception knocked out on channels 1-4 random because maori, juice, triangle were crystal clear. I got asked to look at it found all the connections were fine in the house told them it was the aerial got told no its not because the tv in the front is working. The tv in the front is on sky digital so hooked up to the satellite. The tv in their room is hooked up to the uhf aerial and we had just had storms so figured with the winds that it may have knocked out of place.

My father wouldn't have a clue about any of that stuff. We regularly drive up there to get the TV, SKY, heat pump ... going again. Things like the DVD player, microwave and most of the kitchen appliances he can't operate. We got summoned before Xmas to fix the computer to discover he knocked the plug when vacuming. I have no idea why he suddenly decided for the first time in his life to try to turn it on. We are just happy he knows how to use the vacum cleaner and washing machine.
