Topic: Do you think meatballs would cook well? Posted: 26 June 2008 at 1:06pm |
In a slowcooker?
Mine seems to be quite fast cooking, and if I turn it on at 8.30am when I leave the house, by the time I get home at 3.15ish it is ready and I just switch it over to warm.
Would you think it would be ok cooking meatballs for that long??
I love them, and would love to try cooking them in the cooker, but would be so gutted if they were ruined!

Mmmm... meatballs, I'm having them for dinner tonight.
Ummm, I don't see that it would be a problem. Mince is one of those wonderful meats that can cook for ages without really changing the texture. The only issue is they may break up (not likely though as the slow cooker doesn't bubble away... does it?) as long as you bind them well they should be good.
It's worth a shot anyway.

I've seen lots of meatball recipes that are done in the slowcooker, so doubt it would be a problem, esp if you make them with a sauce at the same time.

I was just going to modify my favourite recipe for italian meatballs to go in the slow cooker. Will check out Alisons one first.
Thanks everyone!

I've only tried it once and they broke up, tasted fine but were meatmush rather than meatballs. Think I didn't bind them well enough tho, and prob added too much liquid.

I always make my meatballs in the slow cooker.
I just fry them off (coated in flour) to make them brown on the outside, put them in the slow cooker, add the sauce on top and cook it on low.
