Hey,

Well, I'm new to this so not sure what the abbreviations are or really how to use this in general!

My hubby and I have been trying for a baby for over 3 years now, been to fertility associates recently, they cannot find any major probs. We were suppose to start on clomid next month but because of my hubbys second semen analysis... we have to go back.. and cannot get in till early sep! We've also been told because at this point we have "unexplained" infertility we are not eligible for public funding until 4-5 years of trying. (does this sound right?) Anyway, first time I've been on here, just looking for someone to talk to... feeling really frustrated but more so isolated!

Thanks

Hi Anna, BIG welcome to Oh Baby. I am in the unexplained group as well. What tests have you had? HSG? Laparoscopy? etc I had both of those and still couldn't find anything then after just over 2yrs and going onto clomid and 3rd month was pregnant with our now 4yr old daughter so miracles can happen. Have now been trying for 3yrs for #2 and many months of clomid and IUI and nothing so booked in for IVF in October. I am with Hamilton FA and I am guessing you are as well. Who did you see there? With unexplained you do need to have been trying for 5yrs to be publicly funded as I understand it. We are eligable for public funding as they count the 2yrs we were trying for our daughter as well as the 3yrs we have been trying for our second so have the 5yrs needed which I think is terrible that they make people with unexplained wait so long. Anyway feel free to come in and hang out in the infertility thread. No need to feel isolated las ots of us on here with many different fertility issues but there is so much support here so join in chick!
Mum to a gorgeous 5yr old girl and a beautiful baby boy.

Hi Anna123 Big hugs to you.

Unexplained infertility can be very fustrating! I had unexplained for 2 years. Went to F+ and had lap and dye done, 3 months later we fell pregnant. I feel so blessed everyday I look at my son.

Yes you do have to wait until you have been trying for 5 years.   Luckily for me, I really do think the dye worked. Apparently they have a great success rate for this - not sure of statistics though.

Just like you I found it fustrating because I didn't have a reason why I couldn't get pregnant.   I too also found it quite lonely.

I couldn't relate to others going through fertility treatment because I wasn't having any treatment. I couldn't relate to others who got pregnant straight away or after only 6 months of trying. I was just waiting for each month to see if AF would come along.

I found this forum great support. I hope you do too. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like or just vent your fustrations.

All the very best hun

Thanks for all the info.

Well, we actually haven't done anything yet... no lap etc. Obviously clomid alone is not appropriate why they are calling us back. We are going to FA in Hamilton. My doctor is an indian lady (don't know her name off the top of my head). Though I think all infertility horrible to go through... when its unexplained it drives you a bit crazy. You just want answers!!!

Can't wait for our appointment in Sep... its the waiting thats really hard.

Thanks

The waiting is extremely hard. Especially when they tell you to wait another 2-3yrs

We were told not to try clomid because they didn't think it would work for me. After the lap and dye we decided to go private and pay for IUI as we could try that in the meantime and if it didn't work we would still be in the queue for IVF. From memory, we were told we could try IUI or IVF but not both - it was something like that anyway. So that is why we decided to pay for IUI. We had the appointment booked but didn't need to use it.

Maybe when you go in September you could ask them what the next step/s will be - if you haven't already.

Keep your chin up - I know it is hard

Hi Anna123,
I have PCOS, and we TTC for 3 years before finally becoming pregnant through IVF.

Clomid tends not to work if there are also problems on the bloke's side, so they tend to focus on IVF or ICSI to get the job done!

Public funding waiting lists go between 6-12 months, depending on where you are in the country, and you need to meet the criteria to be put on the list. The clinic you go to can maybe send you the criteria sheet before your appointment? If you have been trying for more than one year, are under a certain age limit, dont smoke etc, and have male factory infertility also your chances are higher to go on the list.

Hope that helps and maybe you can go on a cancellation list at the specialist, just in case they can squeeze you in earlier?

TTC #1 2005-2009 (PCOS)
Clomid x 4
IVF #1-BFP!
EDD- New Years Eve 2008!!
DD born 11 January 2009.
TTC #2 FET (3 embryos)
