I dont know if you would feel comfortable doing this but this year we told people who asked to just get Kobe $20 bonus bonds. Its just been christmas and we are realy bad at spoiling him so there is just nothing he needed and bonus bonds will help him later and he can win money each month which would just add to it.

yeah we thought some people would feel a bit uncomfortable or think they couldnt spend enough so we set a limit on it of $20 so that way no one had to feel bad and I think thats about an average of what most would spend.

Jake got lots of things for birthday and xmas. The thing he LOVED the most was a wooden hammer and peg set that we got at a craft show. He also loved those beady things you see at doctors waiting rooms. He loves his bokos right now - especially anything that made noises.
He has blocks that he adores too. Not sure about original ideas though!

I'm doing some paintings of Bob the builder for the boys walls. It's really easy. Get some canvases from $2 shop. Trace some pictures of Bob and co on greaseproof paper. Glue onto the canvas and paint over.

Another idea is to get common stories and cahnge the names to the kids.
For me
"Jake and the beanstalk" "Jakielocks - a cautiionary tale about the perils of breaking and entering." Little red riding Jake. etc.

On both my kids first birthdays i brought some name poetry. (you could make it up yourself if your good with pomes) then framed it and hung it on their walls. Nice to have something special to keep for first birthdays
