Hi,
I was kinda looking for anyone else out there that may be experiencing infertility after being on the depo? I was on it for about 4yrs (since my last boy was born) I have been off the injection for 15months now & have been ttc for 12months. Me and my best friend really wanted to be pregnant together and have children the same age, but alas she is due in a couple of weeks and I am still ttc. Ive really basically only had 5-6 28 day cycles since coming off the depo, before when i first came off depo i could go 6 weeks or even 2 weeks between periods........
So is there anyone else out there that is frustrated by the fact that a contraception has screwed your body up for conceiving and if you have had a baby since how long did it take etc.........i need some hope at i am starting to despair now that it may never happen.

I was on depo and I was told that if I was considering children to come off it as it could take two years for your cycle to go back to normal to enable you to conceive.

It took about a year for my cycle to go back to being regular. My then DF was in the airforce in the UK so we only saw each other once every three months so even though we had loads of I miss you sex, I didnt fall pg.

On the day he arrived in NZ for good .. he knocked me up lol

So dont worry .. it just takes ages for your body to return to normal .. Im surprised they didnt tell you that when you went on it.

I kinda new that it might take a bit, but i would often quizz the docs and they would give me that everyone is different jargon that it could be right away and it could take a while and its not different than the pill.
I did mess around with coming off it, it just got way to easy to get my jab every 3 months and never get period........

Ive been getting very regular 28 day cycles, with last two months being one or two days out.

It was quite funny cos both me and a friend who were due to get ours both on Monday, we both got it yesterday, unfortunately for her it was her wedding day!!

Everywhere i read now it says an average of 9months since last injection..........i bet those stats are done on people that didnt have the injection more than a couple of times. Not almost 4 years like me

Thanks for that. I wouldnt mind finding out how long it took other people to conceive after taking depo?? I have had my AF back on 28 day cycle coming into my 6th cycle now since my last injection Nov 07. So I would hope after reading other posts that surely its only a matter of time and timing now along with getting those swimmers into that 22% chance...........

I haven't had it myself but I have a friend who was on it for a brief time, it took her about 15mos (I think, from memory) to conceive after she came off it, it was about a year before she even got her period back.

I was on depo for over 5 years .. it took about nine months to get an AF back, but it took about another six months for it to go to what is my standard (28 days)

I think from reading other posts that it is hugely variable as is everything in this baby making process.

I only had two depo injection and it took 2 years to get AF back with the help of provera tabs. So 6 years in total to get that elusive BFP, i also had some clomid in the middle of it all for about 12 months.

IMO i would go see a fertility specialist - even if its just to talk to you about your options, they might be able to put your mind at rest or at least give you a realistic time line for when you should be thinking of intervention.

I was on the depo for about 7 yerars and came off it to go straight onto the pill (Levlen ?sp). I got AF back the following month, ? the pill helped to regulate it but have been off the pill foe 13months where we have actively been trying to conceive with no luck yet. Since coming off thepill I have had cycles ranging from 23-73 days. FA appt and u/s proved that I have PCOS so I'm not sure if my infidedility comes down to the PCOS or Depo provera. Some G.P's are happy to prescribe it and some are really against it.

Hi, I was on depo for about a year, after my doctor decided my high blood pressure meant that taking usual contraceptive pills was not safe. The reason I stopped was I got a lot of breakthrough bleeding and was also concerned about the impact of it on my fertility.
I then went on a mini-pill for another year, before TTC. I monitored my cycle for over a year before going to a fertility clinic. I took my graphs in, and the doctor glanced at them and confirmed that I hadn't been ovulating at all. I went on Clomid, and after another year or so added in Metformin.
I was ovulating but still not getting pregnant. I had my tubes flushed to check for blockages, which was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, but they were fine. DH was checked, his sperm levels were at the low end of average, but nothing to be concerned about.
Finally, 3 and a half years after we started TTC we did a government funded IVF cycle. The fresh embryo didn't take, but we had 4 frozen ones, and the first frozen one has taken. I am now almost 30 weeks pregnant.
Our problems to conceive are officially unexplained fertility. I don't know if the depo had anything to do with it, bearing in mind I had been on the pill for a good 12 years or so before that....
