Hi guys Im just after some advice for my 3 and a half year old son. He hasn't had a day nap for a couple of months now but 2 or 3 times a week he'll fall asleep very late in the afternoon and its a nightmare trying to wake him up. He's so grumpy for about half an hour afterwards! I generally put him in front of the tv at about 4pm so I can get dinner ready and this is mostly when it happens. Do you think I should stop this? What do you do with your child around this time of day. He attends kindy 3 mornings a week and its often quite tired from it in the afternoons so I thought some quiet time in front of the tv would be good but obviously its too quiet!
Just after some advice and ideas on keeping him awake but not overstimulated please!
Thanks.

Hi Carriemum,
Not really much help but wanted to say it sounds very familiar. My DD falls asleep sometimes in the afternoons, I can't wake her and then she is VERY grumpy! It really is better for us if she doesn't fall asleep even if she is really tired, but that is easier said than done!
I have noticed DD needs quiet play time when she gets home from kindy, playdates and shopping are really not a good idea. If she's had that hours playtime at 2pm she is much better later. II hope it is just a stage and by the time they are 4 they need that nap less often.

Books? Puzzles? Colouring? A task that will keep him occupied but not overly stimulated. Depends on what he likes but along those lines perhaps?

Can he play outside? Say in a sandpit? Or maybe give him his dinner at 4om & put him to bed early?
