a naming ceremony would be good. And they could do a reading or something and you could give them a gift from your children.

I've got a 'Fairy God Mother' for Hannah... my friend Gemma. She can't have kids so it's kinda special. Haven't had any sort of ceremony yet (it would be a non-religious one) but she just knows she's gonna be Hannah's special person

My friend had a naming ceremony and announced us (me and Hubby) as "Mentors" to her 2 boys and said that it was more of an acknowledgement of our friendship than anything else (i.e. not at all religious or you have to have the kids if anything happens to us).
They had a ceremony but it was more of a poetry recital than a naming ceremony (just my opinion tho as I'm not really into that stuff and don't plan to do it with our bubs)

Lewis' best friends are in our will to take both boys should anything happen to us. they would (will hopefully) make such great parents. Ooh, but will hopefully I mean, they are trying to have kids, not I hope we will die and they have to take ours. ick.
They are Jake's godparenst, along with our best friend Sapphy and our other friend in Aus.
Taine's godparents are Lewis' sister and her partner (he told her she could be a godmother without consulting me....grrrr), and we plan to ask our other friends too.
Jake and taine are both lucky to have so many people who care about them in tehir lives. we've made a special photo album (mental note - make albulm for Taine) with pictures of everyone who loves them.

Can someone tell me the meaning of God Parents, like what they actually are?
I always thought they were people that would take your child/ren if something was to happen to the parents... then got told they are just like aunty/uncle special people to your kids? But all our friends will be aunty/uncle etc.
My problem is I have a friend who is helping herself to being the Godparents to our baby when hes born. When honestly I dont think we will have one because if anything were to happen to my partner or I my parents would take care of him and as I said above, all our friends are aunty/uncle. This friend and her hubby were like our best mates but after all the fights we've had I just dont consider her that any more...
enough with the novel lol Can anyone help me?

yes. Although our boys don't share godparents, I really want them both to go to our friends, should something happen to us. Also, since our friends are kinda Lewis' cousins, it was really important for my family, to have something in writing to say that they would have access. I know my friends would have made sure of that anyway, but it helped telling my family about who would take the boys. Although they never said anything, I think a few people were annoyed with out choice, but I really felt that who we chose would be the best surrogate parents for our kids.

Our girls godparents are 'honorary' godparents - I beleive in getting kids christened and getting married etc - mike doesn't really mind either way, so wouldn't really push for either - so i told him to choose between the two which he would rather do (thought he'd go with christening.. the cheaper option but he chose wedding) which means that if he had chosen the other option - we would have had the ceremony.
Paris has my friend for her godmum - we met when we were 5 so have known each other nearly 20 years.
And her godfather is Mike's best mate.
Ayja has family - who i didn't want to choose the first time in case feelings got hurt but this time thought that the special people deserved it and so who cares what others think, so her godmum is my big sister from matamata, and her godfather is my nephew - he's kinda special to me cos we share a birthday (i was 7 when he was born) and he's a great guy.
If anything happened to us our girls would go to my sis and her hubby cos i feel most comfortable that they would get a normal life, my sis is the most like me in parenting styles and in general, and because the rest of my family.. don't even go there . Mike's parents, we have not discussed but am fairly sure that since they are busy, working and such, and do not have as much contact with the girls as my sister then there would be no competition.
