Topic: Going back to work... Posted: 08 January 2009 at 8:07pm |
A friend has got me thinking... going back to work for maybe 2 days a week.
I am not sure how I am going to do this though, with Lucy and Zoe. Not sure how long the waiting lists are at daycare or who I am going to have look after the girls. Thinking of Porse at this stage, but not sure if I can afford it.
Can someone please help me as I am so clueless!!!

PORSE in auckland is about $6 per hour - if kids are under 2, you are eligible for a PORSE subsidy (not income tested) - you may also be eligible for a WINZ subsidy depending on your income. Other agencies are between $4.50 and $6. (I'm going through the whole finding childcare in a hurray and had PORSE here this morning!). My understanding is phone round daycares - not all have a waiting list a year + long, but it's probably helpful to check their ERO reports to see if there are issues with any of them (www.ero.govt.nz). Unfortunately, the phone is your friend - you just need to ring round, and it can take up to a week to get info about what/who is available and how much.
I'm doing two days - it feels to me like a best of both worlds (hah, give me a month!) - 2 days of adult time, conversation and me-development, and 5 days of Mum and Daniel time - skiving off to the beach, splashing in the paddling pool ...

Also ring around a few daycares and other homebased agencies as well. You may get a better deal from other places.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
