Oh, I have the turbo head - came free with my nilfisk vacuum. I think it does a pretty good job BUT I just rug doctored my carpet - now m y mum was vacuuming ahead nwith this head, and then I was using the ryug doctor, and after I finished I still had two huge handfuls of dog hair come up. So while i think they are good, they weren't as good as I had thought. not sure about the price tag to be honest

I have 2 dogs and have a Hoover Hygiene. Fantastic, really recommend it! I can actually sit on the carpet without getting dog hair all over me. Whatever you do make sure you get one with a power/turbo head so that the hair doesn't get stuck all the time.

From being on a dog chat list, this comes up quite often. Usually people love the Dyson or the Meile Cat & Dog.
I have a Dyson & love it!

Our zoo is a little bigger... Try having 3 dogs and 6 cats... LOL used to be 5 dogs but one died and the other had to be put down (old age).
We have a reaaally old vacuum cleaner, it's a Tellus vacuum and requires a bag... It's maybe about 20 yrs old but works really well still!
And there is a guy in Wellington off Cuba st who still sells them

The old Tellus vacs were still being manufactured until about 4 years ago
Go and check out your local retailers and get all the information you can and try them all before making a decision.
Things to look for:
Hepa filtration - H14 plus is recommended
Turbo head - either air driven or power driven
Suction levels
Bags or bagless. Yes bagless are cheaper as you dont have to buy bags BUT they are disgusting to empty
Noise level - some have a very high pitch scream when going. Check the decibel levels as most brands provide this in their brochures
Warranty - some brands come with 3 to 5 year warranties which is pretty good for an appliance!
Hope this info helps!

we have a nilfisk pet one which was ok but then got a shark which is amazing! I was truly grossed out by the amount of pet hair it picked up even after I had just vaccumed with the nilfisk one.

I'll vote for the Dyson animal also. It picks up dog hair better than any vacuum I have ever owned and I have had many. I have a choc lab and so I bought the Dyson dog hair attachment. my dog sits still while I run it over her back.

I've got Bissell ProHeat Pet and it performs bery well for pet hair. I am very satisfyed with cleaning quality especially on shag carpets, that was a problem to my previous vacuum because it had no brushroll. Bissell ProHeat Pet has one and is it brilliant for picking up long pet and human hair.
