I thought green snot was normal when you were getting better, but I went in to the chemist yesterday to find out about some cough relief for DD and tehy said its usually a sign of infection? DD has had her cough for a few weeks now, and not getting better, but saw the GP last week (for that gross tummy bug thats going around) and tehy wernt concerned. Now she has the green snot (has for maybe 3 or 4 days?) should I take her back?

Yep, I was always told green snot is a sign of a secondary infection and needs a bit of help to clear it up... had this confirmed during a recent chat with a nurse at my GPs.

Yup green snot is an indication of something else going on! Best to take her back and get it checked out.

Id take her today. It could get much worse over weekend and you might end up at after hours paying for a visit.

Also i think green snot may be contagious, well another child is much more likely to pick up her cold etc compared to standard runny nose.

Green snot can mean an infection brewing but it can also mean the end of a cold etc. Is she unhappy emmi? how's her temp?

I dunno, ive never taken my kids to the dr for green snot as its always cleared up on its own, however if they were really sick with it, ie temp, lethargic unhappy then yes I would go to the dr's.

Nah shes fine, no temp, shes her usual busy, non stop self!
Made an appointment to see Dr this arvo. Hopefully if it is an infection then thats the cause for her cough so clear up the infection and clear up the cough?

And the Dr said shes fine, not sick, not contagious or anything. ears, throat, chest, temp etc were all fine
he said that there is a new study out about it, and that green snot does happen when they are on the up, coughing up green phlegm is different (and not so good).

Yeah same thing happened to me Emmi.  I agree with Sheza but I had people on my case so I took her and she was fine..............however we still have the cough but the Dr's wouldn't give me cough medicine as they don't like to suppress coughs.

Did you get anything for Lila??  Zoe's coughing wakes her up at night and its a pain in the butt

Nah the Dr said that cough meds dont do much if anything (I dont know, I dont take it myself, tastes soo gross!) and to give her lemon and honey as it does the same job (he explained it but I cant remmber) and better than cough meds, I gave her some last night and it seemed to help soothe it and her cough wasnt as bad, but after all these weeks it might be getting better anyway? Def worth a shot tho (pharmacy also said lemon and honey)

Glad to hear Lilla is fine! With the cough, did she have a cold a few weeks ago? When Chelsea gets a cold, the pesky cough always hangs around for a few weeks after the cold has cleared up (usually only when she's asleep!).

Yeah I might make up some lemon and honey for her today.  Poor poppet is just not very well with this goddamn cold.  I was at the ENT guy today for myself and he said green snot is fine as long as there is no temp or anything and usually indicates the end of the cold.  He reckons they are more miserable cause they can't blow their noses to get rid of it but we can.

And yeah he reckons don't use cough mixture.  and yeah you are right ............it tastes yuck!!

Yeah I always thought it was the end of the cold (I remember my snot going green multiple times before it totally cleared up) but the chemist kinda worried me! Esp since she was fine otherwise, but oh well, better to be safe than sorry!
Yeah let us know how you get on with the lemon and honey, lilla loved it! would be interesting to see if it helps zoe
