Does anyone have any idea if fireworks are going to be sold to the public this year or not?
Miya was born on guy fawkes so for her second birthday we thought we would have a bbq then let off some of those fountain fireworks, the ones that have all the coloured sparks come out but don't make any noise(no idea what they are called) she loved them at the public display last year so I thought it would be a special touch.

Yep they are still for sale, but heaps of restrictions on them.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'm so glad the age has been raised, 14 was way too young! Hopefully they still have sparklers they are so fun but last year people used them to make bombs or something like that. There always seem to be a few the ruin it for the rest of us.

I wish they would just ban them completely. Last year our neighbours were pointing them over into our yard. Completely freaked our puppy out. He's absolutely terrified when he hears fireworks going off now. Then people were down the road behind our house which is actually closed off at night and they were making the fireworks more explosive. They should just have public displays. There are too many idiots out there.

Yeah restircted sales but if that doesn't work then I read they will be banned completely. Thank freaking goodness, I agree with Kebakat, too many idiots and I'm over dealing with freaked out animals and reading of the number of fires and injuries!

We were driving along last year & went past some teenagers driving the other way who were holding those roman candle fireworks out their window & shooting them towards passing cars. I was so mad!! (& so glad I had the windows wound up at the time!) It's such a shame that a few idiots ruin it for everyone else.
I hope you manage to get some for your daughter's birthday though.

on sale for just three days this year and there will be an age restriction and also a restriction on the amount they buy

I love that idea as last year kids round her ran out so went back bought more and fireworks went on for weeks....we have dogs that live outside and they freak out

But then i might go get some sparklers and introduce Ella to them...and it IS our wedding anniversary that night too...off with a bang!

It is such a shame that the few idiots out there ruin it for everyone. Personally I wouldn't mind if they were banned - though I'd feel sorry for people who enjoy and use them responsibly.

We don't tend to buy them as we don't have a lot of space to let them off. Plus we live on a hill overlooking a sort of gully so we get great veiws of everyone elses fireworks at no cost to us

i hate them. would much rather there be more organised events than being able to buy them yourself. they are sooo dangerous its just not worth the risk

Totally agree Robyn
Wellington has such a cool display every year.
Does Chch do anything?

Last year in wellington people were letting them off in the heavy crowds down by the water front while we were waiting for the display to start. We were so angry, they were being pointed left right and centre. So dangerous. People got really upset as it was so densly packed with people. Anything could have happened.

they do a big one out at brighton pier but its always a mission to get home from. they need to do some all over town so more accessible for everyone i reckon. Last year it took my sister almost an hour to get home from and she just lives in burwood! Vanessa would have a prime spot for it though

I defiently prefer organised displays...i'd happily pay a small amount even for a family event and display! (besides they are way better than the poxy fireworks people pay a fortune for and suck anyway!!!!)
