Im a Halloween spoil sport as well, I'm just not into it as its something that NZ has adopted from the US so I think its not really our thing to get into. (another money making scheme for the shops!)
Although DS is not old enough for trick or treating, I don't think that I will be letting him go trick or treating.
As long as they put some effort in I don't mind giving out treats, I hate it when a bunch of teenage girls come knocking with fairy wings on though. Halloween is my birthday so we normally have LOTS of treats in the house I think it's only going to get bigger over the years.
We're pagan so at some stage our children will be told about the origins and meaning behind halloween, but until then we'll celebrate it as a bit of fun and an excuse to dress up
I completely understand lots of people not wanting to participate but I do hope there are other children in the street who'll enjoy it too!
