Topic: Has anyone tried.... Posted: 02 October 2007 at 2:57pm |
...Hebal teas etc to improve fertility?
I went into a health food shop the other day and asked if they had anything natural to boost my chances of TTC.
They gave me a list of some basics to try. These are some of them I was thinking about trying and wondered if anyone had heard anything about them?
*Red raspberry Leaf tea - tones the uterus improving chance of implantation.
*Green tea - powerful antioxidant. A study in Australia show that women drinking at least one cup a day doubled the odds of conception per cycle compared to the control group.
*Peppermint tea - stimulates the reproductive organs.
*Chasteberry(Vitex) - regulates cycles.
*Ladies Mantle - regulates cycles and tones cervix.
I've never been into herbal stuff at all but I've started drinking Green tea but I'm not too sure if there's much point in trying the others or not.

I was told not to take raspberry leaf tea while trying or in the first 2 trimesters as the toning of the uterus isn't the best at that stage. But in saying that it is really good when you have AF to help get rid of it all.

I regularly use herbal teas and have been using rasberry tea to help naturally regulate my cycles for about 7 years now . It definately should not be taken during the first trimester though as it does strengthen the uterus, (which makes it good for later stages of pregnancy). I also use peppermint tea for nausea and digestive problems (if I get them!), and St Johns Wort for PMS or if I'm feeling blue. St Johns Wort is another herbal tea that I believe shouldn't be taken through pregnancy though?
I've just started using nettle tea, which is THE YUMMIEST herbal tea I've come across, and apparently can be used while pg and breastfeeding. It cleanses out the body, liver in paticular (I think). Great to hear you're looking at natural alternatives, always pays to get good solid advice from a registered naturapath or herbalist though (which I am most definately not).

I can't say that I have tried the herbal teas, but we have got DF onto taking vitamins that are rich in Zinc and Vitamin E (among other things) These are meant to help with his swimmers, and without getting too graphic, initial signs look good.
I might have a look at the teas, but a good womens multi vitamin would probably go a long way too.
Best of luck TTC, do let us know if you get good results from the teas.

Green tea is good for improving fertile mucous. Don't overdo it however as I understand too much can deplete your folic acid levels. I found that a cup or two a day in the second week of my cycle was more than enough.

I tried fertilitea from the baby4you website, it's supposed to taste delicious and has all the herbs listed by you Helen21. It tastes semi ok but I'm not pregnant and used it for 2 months (too expensive to use it for anymore!!).
If you want something natural to improve cm I drink grapefruit juice each month leading up to ovulation. I tried the plain grapefruit juice first but it tasted awful!! So I drink pink grapefruit juice and have found an improvement.

I just had a look at the fertilitea, I can't believe the price! I could buy 6mths worth of tea bags for that! I've decided to just stick with the green tea and I have also bought some pink grapefruit juice as well. I am no go at the whole waiting game thing so at least I feel like I'm doing all I can to hopefully speed things up on the TTC front!

Im only on CD8 today I was pretty disheartened when AF arrived 5days late so I'm trying to be as pro active as I can.
I can't stand the 2WW, it seem to go on forever, it's the not knowing that I really can't stand.
At least leading up to OV if I'm drinking teas etc that could help conception so I feel like I'm doing something to help but after OV just the waiting and doing nothing really annoys me.
Goodluck for getting a BFP this month, maybe you won't have a chance to have to drink the yucky tea!

Thanks Helen21 I am seriously hating the 2ww as well.
Sorry you were 5 days late my stupid cycles often do that to me as well. My period arrived last year on Christmas day 5 days late after our 2nd month of trying. I was so certain that I was pregnant that I saved the test for christmas morning only to get a bfn and af an hour later! We had to go to my sister and brother in laws for christmas dinner with my in laws and mum and dad brother etc and I felt soo down. To top it all off my brother in law said he had an announcement to make before we all sat down for lunch, yep they announced that they were 10 weeks pregnant with their 2nd . It was so hard to give them the heart felt excited congratulations that I did.
I really hope this is the month, but if not I got confirmation today that I will start on Clomid next month so I guess that is positive!
best of luck getting in tip top shape for ovulation!

Fertili Tea is a blend that you can buy off the internet, it contains most of the things like green tea, rasberry leaf etc, you only take it up until you fall pregnant, you have 3-4 cups a day, and it does taste really nice. I bought two packtets, and fell pregnant the second moonth, one packet will last about a month. Green tea is also really good, apparently i have red that green tea increase your chancesof conception by 50% fertili tea is similar it assist in ovulation.
Its definatley worth a try i swear it helped me.

I found that by persevering I got used to the flavour of green tea, to the point I really like it now and drink nothing but (helps that the caffeine in black tea and coffee irritates my bladder, and was recommended by my accupunturist so made the switch that much easier to do!)... not that it's helping with the PG bit, YET!

Goodluck! Instead of just buying the plain green tea there are different flavours that are meant to be heaps nicer.
