Topic: help! 3 month old waking twice at night Posted: 18 October 2008 at 4:48am |
hi ladies
we were in a good pattern of waking once in the night now this week and last week Jayden has had quite a few nights of waking twice, last week it was 3 this week its been three too
he seems to be waking for feeds 3 hours from the last at night
We do the dream feed thing around 10 but he most often wakes for it and generally has a good amount then, some of the night feeds he drinks more than he would some of the day feeds so he must be hungry then
I generally feed him every 3 hours during the day but some days he snacks a bit which I am trying to stop....
what have others done to get them out of this phase cause its tiring!!!
thanks

Hi Kye,
I am going through the exact same thing at the moment. Sebastien was almost sleeping through 2 weeks ago and has now gone back to feeding once through the night and last night it was twice. I put it down to their 3 month growth spurt. Unfortunately I think at this stage their routines are all over the place.

Kye - occasionally Natalie also reverts to waking twice during the night, and I know that after her first big sleep we go onto 3 hourly waking I have noticed that it tends to be when she hasn't fed as well during the day - but there's really nothing that I can do about that anyway! She is definitely hungry at night too!
We don't do a dream feed, as I found it made no difference with her as to what time she next woke up, and it just disrupted her sleep. (we might try again once she's 4 months)
I think unfortunately you might just have to ride it out? It could be a stretched-out growth spurt?

yeah i agree with blondy, you just have to ride it out.
Eden is a really good sleeper but she has times when she wakes in the night or extra early. and at 3 mths they are still getting to grips with things too.

We have had this periodically lately. I went to a course on The growing baby (4 - 6months) and the educator said around 3 - 4 months their routines change, and talking to a few other mums this seems to be the case with sleeping and feeding. I'm just feeding when DD wakes in the night now, takes half hour and much easier than trying to re-settle her in the middle of the night.
Good luck and hope you start getting some more rest soon
ETA; for spelling

I agree with the other girls. Also it's perfectly normal for babies to wake that many times a night. The ones that sleep thru, their parents are the lucky ones. It could be a growth spurt, and yes their routines do change around that age, I know Coopers did.
Hang in there, it will get better.

This was Daniel's pattern before we found out he was sick! We'd have 3 great nights with just one wake up and just as I was celebrating, he'd go back to 2 wakeups. If he woke before 2am it was always an ominous sign.
Sorry - no advice, just lots of sympathy and mental hugs!

Jackson did the same, was sleeping through from early on but around 3 months he stopped. At 4 months he was waking 2 hourly some nights . It will get better.... At 6 months hes finally sleeping 12 hours. There is a light!

LOL - just when I think I have it bad, I talk to my sister - she has a 6 month old, and since she was born, has not slept for more than 4 hours at a time (and that was only once - it's normally 3 hourly wakings ).

Yup fairly typical. Most probably a growth spurt. Babie's tummy's are so tiny they don't stay full for very long. Anyone who has a child under 1 (2,3...and beyond lolz) who doesn't have sleep changes is few and far between. The joys of parenthood! lolz

Sorry, my babies woke twice a night "normally" at that age and at the 3 1/2 month and 4 1/2 month growth spurts woke for feeding around 4 times a night - you see why I gave in to solids at 4 1/2 months!!
Eat and rest well, you'll get there!
