Does anyone know if there are any services, free preferably, or a benefit you can receive for domestic help due to illness?

I had my appendix removed on Thursday and I am not allowed to lift anything for 4-6wks which makes it very hard to care for a 15mth and 3yo.
DH will have some time off and I think MIL will come up for a little while but that won't cover the whole time I don't think. My parents will help where they can but Dad is off till Dec with a dble hip replacementbut (when it rains it pours!) so Mum can't take time off. Friends and family will help where they can but I think I will likely need help from about 7.30am till 5.30pm when DH is at work.

Any advise would be appreciated
Lindsey

Have you been discharged form hospital? I work in a hospital and help is usually given to elderly patients depending on their needs and what family support they have.

This should have been addressed by a Needs Assessor or Social Worker before you went home so Im not sure what you can do now. You could call your GP and ask about a referral to Taikura Trust (Community Needs Assessment agency).

Thanks Anthea, I had thought of Parent Aid as a back up but as they only do 3hrs I can't use them all the time.

Thanks HunterMama, will look into the Trust. I am at home now and the nurses did ask if I had help at home and I said yes cos there is DH but I didn't really think about the length of time/extent that they might be asking about. Jack (3) is really good and understands alot but Ben (15mths) just wants to be picked up all the time and he is only probably walking 15% of the time which makes it a bit harder. Might ring my GP on Monday
