hi all im 27 weeks and have placenta previa, i have been bleeding from about 10 weeks but always been brown (old) blood, a few weeks ago i had very small about of red fresh blood so went to hosptial, today i have had more red blood enough to fill 1/2 small pad and had som pain, I know most of you will be go to hospital but i just dont want to i was just there for 9 hours 2 days ago, and baby has been moving alot and i feel like every thing is ok, what should i do? If i call my midwife she will say go to hospital, but i know with placenta previa you bleed alot anyway and only when it is a alot alot then time to worry... so advice just stay home and rest and see if more bleeding happens (as this is how i feel) or call the midwife?? I just feel like i will be wasting people time at the hospital |

Jessenia, I would advise you call your midwife at the very least and talk things over with her. She should be made aware of what is happening and can give you the best advice. And NEVER think you are wasting people's time, it is better that you get checked out and it turns out to be nothing than if no-one knows and it is something.

I say get it checked out. Call your midwife.
Best to be reassured that things are ok, than to discover that you should have gone in.....

I agree, best to go in. Was the blood in one lot or have you been bleeding lightly for a few hrs? The concern with placenta previa isn't really for the baby but for the mothers health. I had PP in my last pg and was in hospital from 24 to 28wks because of bleeding. On the day I turned 24wks I felt a trickle and had a huge gush when I went to the toilet. Scary stuff and I rushed to hospital. My placenta then supposedly moved (and so was discharged at 28wks) but at 32 weeks I had another heamorrage in bed (with my 4yo watching cartoons next to me ) and had another 2 throughout that day while at hospital so they decided to deliver. From my experience, you can go from a drip of blood to what feels like bucketloads in a matter of minutes which is very dangerous. Do you have a full previa or partial?

Yes, was wondering how you were getting on? Still in hospital I suspect. I know at Waikato, if you have any bleeding then they will keep you in until you have had 24hrs with no blood |

Yep, my cousins wife ended up at Waikato from about 30 weeks until d-day because of placenta previa. I guess it's all about the risks, but I hope that yours aren't too high and you get to go home soon.
ETA that I would have gone to hospital too - even though I totally understand really not wanting to! But I'm sure it was the right call even if it's not fun.

Hi every one, I am ok and i got to come home. We where there only a few hours this time i think like 3-4. But was very scary as they talked about delivering baby etc. Thanks every one for your advice i called the hospital and they said to come in as my midwife is away so i called her back up and she had a mesg to call some one else etc etc and this is not the first time i have had to call about 4 midwifes to talk to some one so this time i gave up and called the hospital. I think also as i have had this for the last 4 months i did not really ask any questions as i was to "freked out" to know and undertand it, but they told me that it may get worse and that next time i may not be able to go home etc and i have to come in for any bleed, and like i said i feel like i am wasting there time but i know now that i am not and they are not just worried for baby they are worried for me. Thanks every one |
