Has anyone used a company to get an au pair? If so which one if not did you pay online sites to gain info to contact au pairs directly? If so then who pays for travel and visa's? Tips on this topic would be great!

My friend is currently looking into getting a au pair and didn't want to pay the fee the online sites charge so she got the names from the site and then found them on facebook. Don't know about the travel or visa's sorry.

Thank you Saffron, had not even thought of that, do you know what site she used for info as most don't seem to show the full names that I have seen. It seems like such a mission.....

I have to say, as someone who's worked as a nanny overseas, I would feel a bit weird if someone contacted me (unsolicited) on FB about a job.

I am just about to run out the door but will look in my old email later today to find the sites I used to put my resume on. One in particular was pretty good and I had lots of interest (as a nanny) and the parents seemed pretty happy with it too. I think the online stuff is cheaper than going through an agency but of course you need to do all the sorting/screening yourself and if it doesn't work out then you're back at square one if they leave or you ask them to leave.

We have an au pair who has lived with us since July, she is fantastic and it works really really well for us. She is our second, the first stayed for 4 months but never really clicked with us, so becuase we were with an agency they replaced her.
We are very pleased we chose to go through an agency, it works well for us the the au pairs, they are also ministry registered in our area so an educator comes once a month and does the learning stuff with Talina and the kids and when Lachie turns 3 we will qualify for the 20 hours free. They also have regular training and get togethers, and play groups (not so usuful to us since there is no other au pairs near us). Our agency educator, is great and she calls every week or two to see how things are going.
We have gone through au pair link.
If you have any questions at all please get in touch, it has worked out better than I ever hoped.

We used Linguavision they are an au pair agency and have full time and part time au pairs, we had two girls over the last 7 months, neigther quite worked for us but in wellington they still have many au paris with familys so does work out for most. found them through trade me, i have also got a log in for au pair world which i found by googling, both these companies you are not required to pay anything, the au pair pays for all flights etc you just agree on the wage and hours and responsibilities.

hope this helps and you can get a great au pair to join your family.
