Topic: Help!!! Sealer or Dry Ups?? Posted: 11 February 2010 at 3:28pm |
Hi there everyone! :)
We are parents to a soon to be born baby (due round about the 19th of Feb!).
We are planning to but some bulk newborn nappies online and have found decided from reviews and price to either get "Sealer stylish" or "Dry Ups New born".
Price wise both are about the same (DryUps are about 21cents a nappy whilst Sealers come up at 20 cents).
We are planning to get about 2 boxes at first (as we have heard babies use up about 10-15 nappies day).
Later on at infant stage we want to try and get Muumi as they seem to be really good too (all online stores are out of stock of Newborn Muumi....).
Anyway (sorry for getting off track!!! :)) which of these two brands would be better? Sealer stylish or Dry Ups?
We would be very grateful for any help/advice :)

I've used sealer stylish naps and love them, not newborn size but the bigger sizes.

I have used both but found that the newborn sealers leaked big time as they are a big fit compared to other newborn nappies. They say they fit upto 5kgs but I actually found them best when my son was over 5kg, we hardly got leaks at all then!! We havent had leaks with the bigger sized sealers.
here is a photo of a newborn sealer next to a newborn 'babylove' (different to the wiggles brand babylove) which is what I bought from the nappy for less store and was told was what they were selling in the as dryup bulks at that time (my son is now 11 months so it may have changed now, these are just a few left overs I had) sorry hope that makes sense!!
If you have a nappies for less store close by you could buy a smaller pack and try them for a few days then order a bulk box, the turn around for delivery is pretty quick

Thank you both for the great advice!
And thank you heaps for even providing a photo!
We shall try Dry Ups!
Also, what sort of baby wipes would you recommend? Is there a big difference between cheap wipes (like Sealer or EQ for example) and Huggies? Do you have any recommendations?
Cheers for all of your help!

flannels are much better for their bottoms than wipes.

Flannels are way way better. They grab the poo easier. You won't know if you bub has sensitive skin that doesn't like all the additives and chemicals in wipes. I know of a few bubs that can't have sposie wipes.

One of the mums in our coffee group tried the Dry Ups on her newborn and said that they were a really big fit also and couldn't use them on her baby.
If you go through Baby Online they sell sample packs with 5 nappies in it for you to try. Not sure what the delivery rate is though.
If you are near a store though I would also recommend buying a smaller pack to try first.

Thank you all for your kind advice! We will try flannel!
And we will get Dry Ups. We'll also order some samples.
Hmm...Sizes seem to be a little bit confusing though....
I hear babies need at least 10 nappies a day, so that's round about 300 a month right?
Would that mean we should get around 3 "Newborn" sized nappy boxes (448 nappies) and 1 Infant box? (We will probably get that "buy two boxes second is 30% off" deal from Baby online). Newborn is up to 5kg and infant is....3-6kg? I am guessing the difference is in size?
Our baby might be a little big (4-4.5kg) at birth as a we had a scan done last week (I know scans be imprecise but still ) showed baby to be 3.5kg.
Anyway, either way, would 448 newborn nappies and then infant nappies be ok?

dont go overboard on newborn nappies. your bub may grow out of them quickly and you may not need them long at all. its been almost 6 years since i brought newborn disposables but i am pretty sure i didnt need that many and i think 10 a day is the top end of the scale.

i highly recommend sealer nappies....apart from cloth naps
once we got into night time only naps, we used budget or homebrand naps as they worked just as well (if not better) than any branded ones

I'd only buy one box of newborn - my baby was 4.1kg and she lasted less than 2 weeks in newborn size. Get the second box Infant sized, then you can either reorder 2 more Infant sized boxes if your baby is born larger, or a newborn and an infant if its smaller (probably unlikely you'd need more than 2 boxes of newborn even with a 3.5kg baby at birth).
Oh, and while it's not unheard of to use 15 nappies a day that would be pretty unlikely for most babies - think the most we ever used per day in the early days for each baby was around 8 or 9. My baby is 9 weeks old now and we'd use about 5 a day.

I just wanted to agree on the not buying too many newborn sized nappies. My boy was 4.6kg and was out of newborns very quickly. We went to cloth from there, but I had bought nappies on special throughout my pregnancy - I think maybe 5 packets? And that was more than enough.

I would like to thank you all very much for helping us out!!!!
We ordered two boxes of DryUps- One newborn box and one infant.
Newborn came out as "Canbebe" brand (I think that they are Turkish...
The designs are almost all different .
Anybody know anything about these?
For infant we ordered unbleached and got "Moltex" which we are quite happy with since they seem to be pretty expensive and have good reviews
I also have some other questions I would like to ask but I shall make a new topic for those!
