    Posted: 13 June 2008 at 10:50am
I'm wondering if anyone could help me out here.

I have very sensitive DRY skin, a lot drier than normal at the moment and it's leading to breakouts of eczema all over. The worst areas being in the creases of my arms, all around the front and back of my neck, my face, chest ....AND my breasts. It starts of as red dry patches and goes from there. My hands are even covered in dermatitis ....it's depressing.

I have always had eczema growing up, but it's never been this hard to budge before. I have all the topical steroid creams you can think of, moisturizers etc. I have started taking Evening Primrose Oil as that used to help me as a kid ....it hasn't done anything thus far and it's been two weeks already.

Can anyone recommend any alternative creams/moisturizers ...something I can do that might help? I'm totally at my wits end. All the Dr says it to keep moisturizing which is fine to tell me, but theres only so many times I can lather cream on in a day - and for it to not have any effect!

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Hey hun, I have the exact same problem and I find xma-ease brilliant.

When I use it for my face I normally mix it with a bit of aqueous as it makes your skin feel kinda tight for a while. But it's so soothing and takes the itch out, and doesn't sting if it's applied to raw areas.

It sucks aye? I hate it and I agree, it is extremely depressing.

The other thing that's really good is flax seed oil capsules.

Don't have anything else to add sorry, but just know you're not alone! There's another scaly chick out there who's feeling your pain!

Lol @ Scaly chick comment - Thanks for that darl. Put a smile on my face

Oh Xma-ease - would that just be at a chemist? Is it reasonably priced?

ATM Aqueous cream stings like a b*tch when I put it on, so much so I feel like screaming.

Will pick up the flaxseed oil tabs at supermarket, Mum had suggested both them & EPO but I wasn't sure if I could take both at the same time?

Thanks for your suggestions

Xma-ease is kinda on the pricey side, $29.99 for a 200ml tube, but you only need to use it really sparingly, so it lasts quite a while.

I alternate between the aqueous and emulsifier, 'cause yeah, aqueous stings on the majority of mornings.

I also find that (as gross as it sounds) I have to cut back on showering... I only shower every three days and those showers are tepid (eeeek - I hate it so much) on the days I don't shower it's just the top-to-toe with the flannel and NO soap. I hate showering and bathing because it makes my skin so tight, dry and itchy... Especially my back! It drives me friggin' batty!

I look about 40 (no offense to those smokin' hot 40 year olds out there) 'cause my skin is so dry and under my eyes, eww, so dry and wrinkly! Arrrrrrgh! Thanks be to God for for my heavy black rimmed glasses.

Dunno if it will help but when Daniel had excema patches we got johnsons soothing naturals (theres 2 types of moisturiser and we got the more expensive one in the upside down bottle) and that cleared up all his excema within a few days but we did put it on him about 4 times a day to do that.

Maybe cut down on soaps etc as they are probably drying your skin out more.

I am a dry scaly person as well. I have been heaps better since I stopped using any soaps (I use ecostore body wash now) and the Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Cream (in a big tub with blue lid) is awesome on hands - its nice and thick, but soaks in quickly, and is meant to keep working for 24 hours. I think the QV range is also quite good.

I am using licorice cream on O's excema (but his is only very mild), but it is working wonders on it. I have a friend who swears by it. Its about $12 a jar and you only use a tiny bit. Could be worth a try!

We've found Lemnis cream great for Rohann. But i can get quite dry knuckles, that split occasionaly and find lanolin cream (yup the stuff for your nipples) great. Also great for dry lips.

I have heard good things about xma-ease too.

I have always had little patches but my sister gets it cronicly (SP?) and it always used to get infected etc, all over her entire body. She tried all the creams/moiturizers/tablets/potions but what really worked was emu oil.
I mean PURE emu oil, not that ointment with 5% or something silly.
I rubbed the oil on my itchy bits (hmmm, sounds dodgy lol) twice a day and it went away within days.
Sister took emu oil capsules (because she didn't have the patience/time to oil her whole body twice daily!) and hers cleared up for the first time in her whole life!
You can get it from Silberhorn, they'll have a website if you google.

PS, they recommend taking something crazy like 6 capsules a day but just one or two a day worked for her!
