Topic: High HCG levels Posted: 12 November 2010 at 3:17pm |
Hi girls, just wondering if anyone has had similar hcg levels, as I am a little worried.
I had a dating scan this morning, which made me 6 weeks 3 days. Last week I had 2 beta hcg blood tests. The 1st (would have been 5 weeks exactly) was 10,800 and the 2nd (5 weeks 3 days) 21,000. From everything I have read this is very high.
My first thought was twins (this was a clomid assisted pregnancy) but we only saw one sac and heartbeat on the ultrasound this morning. Could one be hiding?
Any advice much appreciated!!

the range of hcg levels from woman to woman (and for each woman's own pregnancies) varies hugely. I got hcg levels done at 4w5d and that was barely 2K, and then again at about 6w3d and it was just over 80K !! I hadnt had a scan at that stage so I was bricking it over twins. Theres pretty clearly only one baby in here though, and ironically I feel a lot better this time than i did with DD who had 'low' levels, so increased HCG doesnt really mean anything at the end of the day
The doubling rate seems to be fairly spot on, so I wouldnt worry about it

Thanks girls!! ooo chart is very useful!! I don't know why I was worrying, just tired, and hormonal, and let things get to me. Much better now!! You would think 3rd time round you wouldn't worry as much, but I think because it has been a bit of a battle ttc this time I'm more worried about something going wrong!! (And I would love twins and was secretley hoping they had missed one at our scan today!!)

My hcg were really high with my son apart from feeling reaaallllyy sick, everyhing else was normal and there was definitley just him in there!
ETA - my hcg
5 weeks - 11000
2 days later - 21073
and another 2 days later - 33843
So by 6 weeks, It was well over that last number!

I can't tell you how happy i am that i found this, because i'm going through the same thing and am a little freaked out about it. My situation is pretty weird. I have really long periods and have no clue when we conceived, but here are my values:
LMP was 5 september 2010
Had a blood HCG on 14 October which was 0.80-neg
took a hpt on the 21 October (a week later)negative.
took another blood hcg Nov 4.2010 (4 weeks after the first) and got 8,913!! I had a scan done that same day, and the tech said she only saw a sac-which was appropriate for 4 weeks, but she wasnt very thorough.
exactly a week later on the 11 November, my hcg was 56,925, had a scan done that day, and now the scan measured me at 6 weeks +1 day, and we saw the fetal pole and hearbeat. (so when the tech said i was 4 weeks, i guess i was really 5) - but if I was already 6 weeks on 11 November, how could my hcg have been negative 4 weeks earlier? and why are they so high now???
My doctor also thinks its strange my numbers are so high. He was really surprised that they only saw one in there and is sending me for another scan in a week and half - probably to make sure they didnt miss something.
I have to admit i've been consulting dr google too much which is not good, so i'm also really concerned.
Did anyone have such high numbers and have a completely healthy baby?
