Topic: Holiday- any ideas? Posted: 12 April 2008 at 7:02pm |
A friend and I are going away for a girly weekend in July I'm so excited! Anyway- for anyone who has spent time over here and did the weekend escape type thing do you have any suggestions???
We have looked into Ibiza, Malta, Menorca and Mallorca. We're wanting to go for lots of sun, beaches and a couple of big nights out but somewhere that's relatively safe. Having never been to any of them I have no idea! Has anyone been to any of these places? Or know anyone who has? Or has any other suggestions that would be similar to these?
TIA!

I know my German girlfriends used to go to Ibiza or Mallorca. Both good fun time sun places :)
So jealous right now!

Don't go to menorca that place is mega boring. Me and DH did a week there and was ready to come home after 2 days. Is ok if you have kiddies and want a relatively quiet sunny break but not good for couples/girly weekends etc. (unless it has changed, was 6 years ago).
I personally was always put off the ibiza/mallorca type places as I typically tried to avoid "those" type of people whilst at home so didn't want to get stuck on holiday surrounded by them.
What about italy? there are some really beautiful lakes in northern italy and haven't been too southern italy but I believe there are suppose to be some stunning beaches.

Greece - Kefalonia was nice - but make sure you check out what type of beach ie. pebble or sand, when you make accommodation bookings. hmm, kefalonia possibly not so good for big nights out. But lots of day cruises and swimming went over well for me.

What about Cyprus - but going to Paphos not Ayia Napa. Paphos is a little more mature, but you can still get a good night out. The beaches arent as nice, but there are some lovely resorts!
I lived in Cyprus for 3 years when I was younger, so guess I am biased.
The other option could be somewhere like the Italian / French riveira - bit more classy, and pretty safe!

Ibiza gets my vote! If you want to stay near the clubs etc but want a bit of peace and quiet in the day try to get a hotel in San Antonio Bay (rather than San Antonio) I hope I have that round the right way - been a fair few years since I've been there lol Either way, one if full of the louts, the other is the more up market area
Failing that Cyprus or Greece
I've been to Kefalonia too! Very beautiful, but I can only remember 1 club (that's enough when the Ouzo (sp?) is flowing LOL
I'm so jealous!!! *throws a major sulk*
The only thing I miss about living in the UK is the cheap holidays.
DH and I spent our first weekend away in Geneva. From memory the flights were 50 pounds return

Ohhh yes Croatia gets my vote too (and its cheap)! I lived there for quite a while when on my O.E as I loved Croatia so much I didn't want to leave!
Croatia is my second favourite destination!! (Africa is by far my fav, getting off topic now sorry)!!
Oh man you make me jealous, I want to go on holiday in Europe again

It's a bit long to fly for a weekend, but Dubai would be my pick.

Thanks for the feedback guys! We have a holiday for greece planned already so would rather go somewhere else for this one. I have heard good things about croatia and will look into cyprus as well.
Cuppatea- is Ibiza full of Chavs, or do you mean like silly young people?

Just loads of horrible drunken young people making twats of themselves. If you have ever watched any of the holiday rep type programs you would see what I mean. I know that some of the male apprentices use to go there on lads holidays and it normally resulted in stomach pumps and STD's.

What about south of France, Nice or St Tropez? Or west Coast, Biarritz etc. The Algarve (Portugal) is beautiful and lots of fun, had a few girlie holidays there. Turkey was another favourite, you could probably get a cheap deal to Olu Deniz or somewhere equally beautiful.
I stayed in San Antonio Bay years ago (Ibiza) as toni reccomended and it was perfect, close to the action but quieter.
I would always say Dorset, Cornwall or Devon at that time of year, you might get lucky with the british summer, you never know

LOL! Loooovely! Will have to try and catch one of those programmes.
We've done cornwall and devon already- plus been to bournemouth and brighton a couple of times as well.
We thought of St Tropez but its pretty pricey as is Mauritius. Will look into all of your suggestions and let yo know what we decide
Thanks guys!
