Topic: How did your labour start with 2nd? Posted: 22 October 2010 at 10:19am |
Just for those with more than one child, did all your labours start the same? ie if your waters broke at the start of labour, did the same happen in subsequent labours? Or just niggles that got stronger etc? Just wondering!! Ideally I would like my waters to break first off (so I knew I was in labour lol as I have an irritable uterus so tightenings are no indication) but they didn't break until I started pushing with DD so not sure of the likihood of that happening this time

First labour started with waters breaking and then contractions about 30mins later.
Second labour started with contractions 3mins apart lasting around 90sec.
No niggles or prelabour with either of them.
I was hoping that second time around my waters would break first as then its a sure sign things are starting, but i was pretty sure the second time with contractions so close together at the start

First labour I had fairly regular niggles all day and then proper labour started with waters breaking (I'm not convinced they were 'meant' to break when they did, suspect my membranes were weakened from a few stretch and sweeps).
Second labour I had a lot of the same niggles but they kept dying down at night (who knows, maybe the same thing would have happened with JJ if my waters hadn't broken). When I went into 'proper' labour I knew instantly it was the real deal, waters didn't break until transition.

Still waiting here... First labour was textbook - show, 3 hours later waters broke, then niggles all day and contractions started properly that evening.
With this one I get niggles and even some pretty regular contractions that fizzle out after a couple of hours. Very frustrating.

1st - false labour friday, nothing saturday then on sunday morning at 1am I woke with contractions about 10mins apart that nothing seemed to help and they progressively got longer and quicker. 10 hours later he was here.
2nd - I had lots of BH and constant cramp for like a week or two. Then woke up at 4am with contractions about 5 mins apart. I didn't know they were contractions. I thought I rolled over funny and it was just that so I tried to sleep between them. I couldn't stop going to the loo so thought oh sh*t this might be it. Got longer and quicker very fast and was here 5hrs later

First one was days of build up & then the day before I had her I got woken by ouchy contractions.
2nd one first thing I knew was waters breaking, totally took me by surprise. Although in hindsight I felt like things were bulging a few hours earlier down below.

With DD1 my waters broke in the early morning, though retrospectively it was just a hind water leak and not the full amount of amniotic fluid. Labour started around lunchtime but didn't become regular for a couple of hours - I think it was 13 hours or so before she was born.
With DD2 I just felt a bit funny when I got up, quite heavy and lethargic, and there was a lot of pressure in my pelvis. After about an hour the pressure became much stronger, and that's when I realised what was actually happening - the sensation of the contractions as they strengthened was quite different to my first labour though. I retreated into my bedroom and it was less than another hour later before she was born - my waters broke just as her head came out.

Both labours happened much the same way- contractions started in the middle of the night (no warning) and my waters didn't break until just before they were born.

First was an induction...
Second a week of starting and stopping... the night I first started the naturopharm pre birth spray, that night a few hours of contractions about 10 mins apart, nothing the next 2 nights so tried sex, show the next day, contractions that night, more show the next day, more contractions that night, more contractions the next night, more contractions that night... woke DH at 6am and told him he shouldnt go to work, 8am it had all stopped. Big cry to mw who told me to relax for the weekend and she would give me a S&S on monday morning. More contractions that night and at 7am I knew it was time THANK GOODNESS! So thats 7 days of false labour, lucky me LOL
2 weeks on and I would do it all again in heartbeat... I am a weirdo

i was induced with my first cos i was late but with #2 i was running round the city doing stuff. felt uncomfortable but ok, kept running round cos i am stubborn. sat down and realised they were contractions and they were 5 mins apart for more than 1 min. drove myself to the hospital to find out i was 7cm. waters were broken for me at 8cm cos my labour didnt progress once i had sat down and out popped baby. home 2 hours later, felt fine. lol

First started with strong contractions about 5 mins apart and waters didn't break until transition about 8 hours later.
With my second I was in latent labour for a month. 'Proper' labour kicked in no differently to the month of contractions prior except that the contractions started at the totally full on unable to talk point and waters didn't break until the midwife ripped open the amniotic sac once she was out an hour later!

not at all the same
first- back ache which led to strong contractions, then waters broke themselves and got a show five mins later
second -2 weeks false labour, 4cms dilated for 4 days, and waters were broken by MW at 7cms

Both totally different.
#1 I had irregular back aches for 24 hours. Then I had a show at midnight, contractions from about 4am. 4cm by 7am, contractions gaining momentum by 12pm waters broke at 1pm, baby out at 1:34pm.
#2 My waters broke at 3am. No niggles until about 10am. Had an internal at midday, MW had a "rummage around" and a huge glob fell out as soon as I stood up.
By 3:30pm contractions kicked in. By 4pm they were every 3 minutes, a minute long.
Transition at 4:55, baby out at 5:13pm.
