We're having bedtime dramas with Zamara. To make matters worse, Katerina usually goes down a treat around 7, by the time Zamara gets ready and into bed, she throws a tantrum (when her stalling tactics fail to work) and invariably wakes Katerina up. Who then is up for anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, and half the time wakes Z up (who's only just dozing off by then) and often the girls aren't into their "real" night sleep before 10pm.

Part of the problem with Z I reckon is that DH only gets around an hour with her each day and spends most of that time racking her up and rough-housing. So going to bed can be run-run-run-run-now SLEEP. And obviously doesn't work well for anyone! DH usually is in charge of dinner for the girls and their bath, then reads them books (in actuality K usually falls asleep - in her cot - before / during book reading so therein may be part of the issue)

The girls share a room and we have no space to do any different - 'most' of the time it works out fine, just recently it's been a problem. We've only even HAD these dramas for the past month or so - before then she'd go to bed with relatively few complaints, and if she wasn't tired she was happy to 'read' by herself until she was.

What do you do as a wind-down routine for your toddlers and / or preschoolers? And what time do they go to bed?

Michaela's bedtime is 7:30pm and it's preceded by brushing teeth then a toilet stop then I change her into her nappy and pjs, read her a story and say prayers before I leave the room and close the door behind me.

Tom is a bit younger but he has dinner at 5.30 followed by bath (which winds him up a little).  Then its nudey bum time as we chase him around to get him nappied and dressed then I let him choose some books.  At 6.30 he gets a bottle (in his highchair reclined) and we head to bed after that.  He is asleep most days by 7pm.  I used to give him his bottle at 7pm but he seemed to rark up too much before then.

Ella's bedtime is sometime between 6.30 and 7. She has dinner around 5ish and sometimes has a 2nd dinner with us just before 6. DH comes home around 5.30 so she plays with him a bit and they finish off by reading a book (or 2), then a bath, b/f in her darken room, brush teeth and then into bed and staight to sleep.

DD usually has dinner about 5 ish with us then a bath. She's just dropping her naps so she's into bed for about 630pm and DD reads her a few books and then it's bedtime and another cuddle from me. We've just started dropping the naps as she wouldn't go to sleep until after 9pm and would be up and down then she'd get all upset and becomea nightmare. We tried the rapid return to bed with no talking but it seemed to make her worse, so now without the day sleep she goes to sleep pretty quick, YAY!

Samantha has dinner around 5.30 with us, then bath, story and a bottle and then bed around 6.45-7pm. Most nights it works a treat, but I have to say that recently with the summer heat she is not wanting to go to bed and has been a little toad

haha, that sounds familiar...Bella has been staying awake an extra hour with the heat just 'chatting' to her dolls before she finally conks out

Our routine is dinner by 5pm, then a bath, then nudey bum time, read a story, brush teeth, get dressed in PJs, bottle in her couch, then off to bed by 6.30pm at the latest (Bella doesn't sleep well during the day)

Im very cautious of DH rough-housing Levi just before bedtime as he wont settle easily. When DH is home, he does the bedtime routine which helps settle Levi down.

Our routine is:

6:30pm   bath (on bath-nights)
dressed in pjs
bottle of warm milk with his soft toys and either in DH reading him a story in bed or us cuddling him in our arms
7pm lights out.

I am a stickler for the 7pm bedtime as DH tends to drag it out to 7:30pm or longer and Levi gets worked up and overtired and the calming routine doesnt work.

Jake has dinner about 5/5.30, then a bit of a play, cup of milk at 7pm, then bath, stories, cuddle and in bed by 7.30pm.

It has got later with the heat too - but hes had really long day naps some days recently which means hes just not tired at 7pm any more ... so some nights it stretches out to 8pm or so ... or he talks in his cot for up to 20mins before going to sleep.

Our routine is:

4.30pm DH arrives home, mucking around , playing etc
5.30pm we all have tea
6pm Bath
6.30pm out and dressed
milk
bed, usually asleep by 7.30pm

However Jack does not self settle - grrrr! We have tried numerous times to teach him but we seem to get interrupted by teething or illness just as we are getting somewhere.

We have a similar problem in that we can't seem to get him relaxed enough to get him to self settle. He won't sit still to read a book and I am running out of ideas to try. Sorry, I am not much help!

I get home from work/picking Jessie up from daycare at around 6pm.

She has dinner around 6.30pm, then a bath and books and is in bed by 7.30pm.  Then my hubby and I have our dinner together in peace

It all sounds pretty good, but Jessie is usually awake (and ends up in our bed) somewhere between 2am and 5am!
