Does anyone know of any positions or massages, just something that I can do on myself to relieve pain and cramps around the sides of ribs, my arms, legs, back- basically everywhere?
I wake up in pain and it sticks all day. I get constant cramping in my legs and feet and since my partner is working 12-13 hours a day now he doesnt feel like giving me a little rub anymore and he basically falls asleep.
I've tried to elevate my feet when I sit down to have them the same height as my waist but that doesn't help much. I've tried just getting up and moving but sometimes it makes it worse and I try just laying down but that doesnt help out much either.
Hopefully this isnt just something I'm going to have to live with for the next 10 weeks. It's a far drive to get to town for a massage or something nice like that and they charged me $175 for an hour to massage my face, head, shoulders and arms. SLACK! They wouldn't do my feet since they said there's a ligament or something in there that if he gets touched or pressure on it- could make some ladies go into labour and they couldn't do my back because of the pregnancy thing...
I'm DYING FOR A MASSAGE... please help.

Ok, first of all, what a rip off !!! Secondly, if they are not trained in massage for pregnant women I wouldn't have given them my money in the first place, what a load of bollox about not being able to do your back or feet !! So, thirdly... because I know how much it sucks to be all achey. If you were here in NZ, preferably Auckland of course, I would have taken you straight off to Bella Mama - who I could not recommend more highly. We booked a package of 6 massages, and they cover the whole body - even my feet !! I would suggest doing a bit of scouting around, despite there being a big drive into town for you, and see if you can't find a more legit massage place.

Oh ! And it just occurred to me - it may not be a proper full body massage, but just for the pain and achyness in certain areas, you might want to try looking out for either a good physiotherapist, osteopath, or even chiropractor.

actually jax it is correct that it is contra-indicated to massage some areas of the feet during pregnancy. There are nerves in the back of your foot, near your achilles that can trigger labour. If in doubt ( and seriously, these people sound pretty bad stevie ) i would not go back there. Pregnancy massage is a great thing in the hands of someone experienced. As for your back, no you cant lie on your tummy anymore, but you can lie on your side and have your tummy propped with pillows, so the therapist can get at your back some. It wouldnt be a traditional massage with both sides of your back targeted at once, but you would get one side of your back done and then the other. Often it is the back that needs the most care during pregnancy, so i am blown away that they wouldnt massage it for you! If you lived here stevie i would come and massage your back for you
I am not sure how much help it would be, but i have been eyeing up a thing that goes onto chairs and is a massage and heat pad - maybe you could find something similar that might help?

D'oh ! Sorry, you are right, but it's not that they can't massage your feet *at all* - they just have to know which area it is they have to avoid. Even though Bella Mama do massages specifically for pregnancy, I checked everything over with them before I paid any money, just to be sure. And with the back, they do one side at a time and then get me to turn over half way through. I'm due to go for one in another hour actually and am REALLY looking forward to it. I apologise if I came across as a bit full on in my first reply, but I guess it's because I sympathise with your frustration in feeling so uncomfortable - and there ARE people out there who can help, professionals that is, and not charge you so much.

Oh thank you for the offer xanthesmum- I'd definetly pay you- I'm considering flying over just for the massage now Haha. Great offer!!
I'd love to find somewhere that is experienced with pregnancy massages over here and I wish we didn't live in whoop whoop. And as you said Jes- the table with the belly hole- that is interesting... I'd like to see that!
Is there any massages that you do on yourselves? That I could try?

oops just read how ur partner works long days. Maybe try going to a school where they teach massaging cos they always need preg ladies to practise on and they are cheap (my sis wasn't allowed to charge any more than $10). Hope this helps

Hi Stevie, I am a qualified massage therapist and I know the ladies at Bella Mama, and I so would love to massage you if you were over here! I work from home so don't charge as much and I am shocked that someone would charge you $175! Maybe you could ask around to see if there is anyone who works from home close to you that can get a massage from? Even try massaging yourself, you can't do anything wrong, just whatever feels good. But a Osteopath could be a good beat as well as a nice soak in a bath and some gentle stretches. Good luck.

Yeh I'm in Australia... Up in the Whitsundays- which isn't as good as it's made out to be.
I found a lady who lives out this way- about 3 minutes up the road who does massages etc and she's all qualified to do that so... I'm going to go for a waddle up that way one day soon and ask her what she could do for me and how much. Hopefully we'll work something out. I've been getting this sorta nerve pinching in my back right hand side in the same spot and it makes me jump alot. So maybe she could help with that?? Don't know- just going to have to go see her. If I were in NZ I'd love to check out this Bella Mamma and I'd come see you to Red but until then
