Ok, so yesterday Bailey my nephew went in to get his tonsils, and adenoids out. He was also getting his grommets re-done as they fell out before they were supposed to.

First he had a reaction to the anaesthetic, his body woke up but he wasn't conscious so had to be sedated again, then last night (thank god he was in hospital) he had a big haemorrage and had to go back to theatre at about 11pm last night.

Turns out after many blood tests, that he has a clotting disease.. mum can't remember the name of it and i was on lunch break when i popped in so couldn't go ask the doc about it. Apparently it's common for them to only find this disease when they do the tonsils and adenoids because, well, the same thing that happened to bailey happens. ha, funny that.

Now i ask you how on earth they have never found this out after the millions of blood tests he has had int he last few years with going to starship and all the other guff.

He's doing ok now, was very very white at lunch time and not his usuall terror-tot self, poor guy.

I just can't beleive they haven't found it before now

OMG your poor mum and you. Is it a family disease or a one off??

But at least he was in a good place when it happened.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

that sounds horrible. it might be hemophilia which is when the blood doesnt clot properly and its generally only in males. Hubbys cousin has it really bad and has to be very careful.
Hope he gets better soon.

Thats what I thought it was.
I'm surprised they don't test for it as its genetic and passed on by the mother, and only appear in males as its tied to the X chromosone which males only have 1 of.

The mother wouldn't know she has it until she has a boy.

They should have picked that up!

DH, BIL and MIL all have blood issues and it was picked up with blood tests for all of them.

BIL was meant to get his tonsils etc out but didn't because of what happened to Bailey. He has "christmas disease" which is a really random name but he just has a very hard time clotting so bleeds insanely when he gets cut.

Some routine blood tests do not pick up all clotting disorders unfortunately. I would expect that they did all the routine tests which should pick up things like low platelets, haemophilia and christmas disease and other more 'common' disorders.

Did you find out what the problem was??
