(and she knows we her - and that I'll give her lots of advice about multiple births)

It's great to see some postings about Hypnobirthing and to read that it has helped people through the process even when things didn't go quite to plan. I completed the course a few weeks ago and am awaiting the opportunity to test its effectiveness any day now!
I can say that I feel much more relaxed and optimistic about the birthing experience than I was before, and it's a great way to get the hubby involved - it's given him some ideas about what he can do to help me out on the day. And i know I've got some techniques I can use to help me stay as calm and relaxed as possible. Even before the birthing I use some of the breathing to help when the bub is giving me jip! There are some amazing films (not at all icky) on YouTube showing incredibly peaceful births using HB for example:

For anyone around the Auckland area the Hypnobirthing instructor we went with can be found at http://www.positivebirths.co.nz/about.html

I have emailed the positivebirth people and not heard anything back. Did get an email back from another place in auck but they dont do weekend courses. There is no way we can travel to a weekly course!
Good to hear your course went well RuthyH. Great that u are able to put some of it into practice already!
I have been to scared to watch a youtube video clip, but will check out the one u posted sometime,...not now when im about to go to bed tho cos i may freak out and not be able to sleep,..I had a horrible experience with Isla's birth.

I'm sorry to hear you had a horrid time of it last time. I was so nervous to watch the clips as well in case it freaked me out but believe me this will have the opposite effect - if it wasn't for the baby suddenly appearing you really wouldn't realise that she was in labour at all! I hope you manage to find a course that's right for you and that next time the birthing is a very different experience.

Hypnobirthing
The Mongan Method: A Natural Approach to a Safe, Easier, More Comfortable Birthing [With CD]
By Marie F. Mongan
Hey All. Does anyone have the above book that I could borrow please? I don't have the money to buy the book but both DP and I are interested in learning.
The book will be cared for and I can pay for any postage.
Can you PM me please if you're happy to let me borrow the book. Thanks in advance

Hi Carin - mine is on permanent loan to my midwife although I could get it back if necessary, but have you tried the library? Not sure where you are but (for example) there are 4 copies across the Auckland region...

Anyone know where I can buy that book and cd's or whatever else u need with it? Have not been able to find anyone running weekend courses this year, so wont be able to do a course since we live in Gisborne and I think there are only classes in Auck and Well.

Kellz - you can get it from:
The Women's Bookshop
Page & Blackmore
but it seems to be cheapest at Fishpond
ETA - or if you can hold out for a little while, I've seen it come up on TradeMe occasionally...

I thought I might look into getting a hypnobirthing book, but time & money (I'm due in 4 weeks).....
Btw you can get it really cheap second-hand here (like US$1), but would have to pay for postage from the states, & wait a while for it to get here...

Just popping in to let you all know I got my VBAC (with forceps) hypno birth
I had a much quicker labour, only 6 hours this time from nothing to delivery (was 18 hours active labour with Caitlin ending in emergency c-section) and can honestly say I only felt intense pressure during "surges" rather than pain.
Marcus was born on his due date, 9lb 11oz, 54cms long and got stuck on my tail bone so wasn't coming down on his own hence the forceps.
He's a really relaxed and easy baby, only waking once or twice during the night to feed then straight back to sleep so I'm feeling reasonably good (episiotomy is well healed now) and breast feeding is going much better this time too They say this is all typical of a relaxed birth, who knows but life with a newborn has certainly been easier this time around... so far
I also used my hypnobirthing breathing for the first post-birth poo That was a bit scary! But once I relaxed the body just took over and it didn't hurt as much as I thought it was going to lol
I'm really happy with my birth experience in comparison to my last birth and have passed on all of my CDs and books to a friend who is due her baby at the end of the month. The only negative thing I have to say is that my midwife kept getting me to move (to see if baby would come past the tail bone) during contractions because she wasn't sure when I was having them because I was so relaxed. I found that a bit distracting having to tell her to wait until it was finished. She said I would just go very still and would breathe more deeply but that was it.
If anyone is considering it, I would definitely do the course or at least get the book.
We went through Amanda Collier at Head First Hypnosis, she's at Mother-Well in Mt Eden. Really lovely lady, can't recommend her enough!
