Me too! Benjy's nails were really long when he was born and I was worried that he would scratch himself with them so away I went with the clippers. I managed to clip the tip of his finger off and made him bleed a little bit!
I felt like such a mean mummy!

I refuse to cut my babies fingernails coz I am still traumatised by cutting Maya's thumb when I was trying to clip hers when she was five weeks old. Willie came home from work and I was in tears and I said to him "I hurt the baby!" He rushed inside thinking I'd dropped her or smothered her or something, he was not impressed when he realised I'd made him panic over a cut finger My mum gave me the best advice tho coz I was feeling sooo guilty - she said if a cut finger is the worst thing she ever has to endure in her lifetime then she's a lucky baby. And she is so right!

I tried to use the nail clippers on DD1 when she was very small and freaked myself out by almost doing the samething. So instead I use small embroidery sissors - they are very sharp so cut the nail with very little effort and because they are small you can see what you are doing. 2 children and no accidents yet - so far |

I've done it too, and I knew as soon as I'd done it what I'd done... I handed him to DH and couldn't go near him for an hour, I felt sooo bad...

eekk , dont feel bad though it was an accident . I cut cadens last night when he was asleep, I have a tommee tippee nail clippers set and it comes with little emery boards, I find them great and they are really safe.
I cliped the long long bits gently then did the rest with the emery boards

Have done it too! I felt so bad and was scared to do it for ages.
I still hate cutting them but lately when I have been doing it and he is quite interested in what I am doing and just keeps his hands still. lol
Most Mums do it so dont feel too bad |

I did that too, and it was bruised for a wee while which made me feel even worse Then when Keziah was 7 months old my mum did it to her little toe |

I'd just leave it to heal itself... unless it's broken skin!!!! If it IS broken then i'd put an antiseptic cream and a wee sticky plaster on it

Just leave it. Maybe a bit of antiseptic cream if it looks a bit nasty but I'd stay away from plasters, they can irritate wee skin.
