You can't take anything for it, not even huge doses of vitamin C like I'd usually do...I have to suffer through the runny nose without so much as a codral to nuke everything and now I'm even more tired than normal.

*bleah!*

Ok sulk over....kind of. I'm just feeling very sorry for myself!

you poor wee chicken! i have had 2 colds so far
dean makes this really yummy honey/lemon drink which makes me feel better, maybe you could give that a go....

also make sure you get yourself some really nice, soft tissues! another thing i usually use, which sounds gross but is nice on the nose....old style cloth nappies. they are really soft...don't worry, i don't use them as nappies after!

hope you feel better soon hun!

I would second the lemon and honey tea, and get back onto ginger tea or try it if you haven't yet. Anything with peppermint in is good too, and you might want to try creating your own aromatherapy 'steam bath' - get a bowl you're sure can withstand freshly boiled water, and either some lavender, or tea tree, or a menthol / eucalyptus essential oil combo... put a few drops in, sit down with your face directly over the bowl and then cover your head with a towel to trap the steam. I know it sounds awkward, but it can do wonders ! Just let your snot and anything that dribbles out fall into the bowl LOL And have some tissues on hand for afterwards. And I thought a little vitamin C was ok? It could still help even in small doses, but if you don't want to take tablets, eat mandarins ! Ummm... what else... oh, and don't know if you could be bothered, but colostrum tablets or tablets with that in them are good for boosting your immune system. Arnica might help, but it's mostly for healing injuries rather than infections, you'd get that from a health store as well (homeopathic type remedy).

How miserable for you Paws!
That fresh chicken soup in the plastic sachet bags in the chillers at supermarkets (Delmaine brand) is worth every penny, even when you're not crook! But so much more comforting when you are.
I say milk this cold for massages too. They're just so good for you!

Hey all,

B is being a real trooper looking after me and yes, massages have been freely given!!

I'll try the lemon and honey thing and might just have to see if I go in hunt of some chicken soup. I've been downing diluted just juice too.

Tissues....hmmmm, even the soft ones are starting to feel harsh!!

At least the bed rest seems to be helping!

Seems to be a few colds going around on both sides of the Tasman (yeah i live in Aussie), sucks not being able to take anything for it. Just suffering through it for now.

Does anyone know what aromatherapy oils you can use? I noticed Jax said lavender, tea tree etc, is tea tree ok, if so there is a nasal spray that is saline based (not steroid) that has tea tree oil in it which is good for blocked noses while flying - FESS Frequent Flyer, not sure if you can get that back in NZ (got mine at a chemist).

Just going to check out the website and see if it says it's ok to use in pregnancy. www.fess.info if your interested.

Tea tree is fine acc. 2 midwife and doc, lavender is good, as is ylang ylang, and rose. Mind you, the first two are the best !! Also peppermint or lemon.

Thanks Jax, also looked up in 'Up the Duff' book at what oils are ok and it was listed there - that is great as the FESS frequent flyer nasal spray is ok to use during pregnancy. Might give that a go if my nose blocks again, seems to be all good at the moment, gotta love Lemon Honey drinks and Vicks.

I so know how you feel Paws. I had a terrible cold about 1 month ago and I couldn't take anything for it either except for some panadol and honey to sooth the throat. Hope you feel better soon :)

I think you need to consult with your doctor or midwife before dosing up on Vitamin C...mine vetoed it for me and I only found out because I was reading through "What to Expect" and a couple of others and it said not to take mega does without consultation.

Anyway, I bowed to public pressure and took today off as well seeing as I'm still feeling grot. Oh and by public pressure I mean hubby won't let me leave the house until I can at least cough and leave my lungs IN my chest. *sigh*

I found out today you can take and it is recommended Pregnant Mums take up to 500mg per day...As it helps absorb Iron (which lots of us are low in).

Now that is the ESTHER - C Vitamin C which is a non acidic form of Vitamin C for those that have troubles taking it.

Yeah that sounds about right. I had a health food store sell me one brand that was double that and told me to take 2 tablets a day (2000mg) and that's what the doc said no to.

I think I'm taking around 500mg at the moment.

At least I'm actually feeling better after my day off! YAY!
