sorry for the vent you are about to read...
just took car to get wof and it failed on about 6 things!!! all up its going to cost about $500.
considering I spent about that last wof and a couple hundred the one before, I am suitably peeved!!!!
considering only bought car for 1100 and its old not sure what to do.
can't actually afford the repairs, on the sickness bene at mo and no savings. so really dont know what to do.
if i didnt have 2 kids that needed to be ferried to school maybe i could sell it.
 argh
anyway sorry for the vent, i'm just totally stumped now as to what top do.

Have a good shop around to see who does the best things. Ask your mates to see if they are things which can be done at home etc - not everything HAS to be done by a mechanic in a shop. WINZ will help you pay for car repairs as well - and im pretty sure it's around a $600 limit which you can pay back 5 bux a week. They'll have no problem helping as you NEED the car for the kiddies.

in my opinion / experience it will be worth taking the WOF failure sheet and a list of the necessary repairs to a few garages to see if you can get a better quote

Thanks guys, yea i will although i took it to all car autos on maces road and they second hand guys, so thinking it should be an ok quote.
 need:
 new window wipers
 new tyre,
 horn doesnt work
 rear engine mount needs replacing
 back shocks leaking
 broken brake lens
 argh
I will have to try winz tomorrow.
although we w ll be off benefit in march (was temporary cos of my anxiety) so wondering will they still be sweet with me paying it off??
surely smashing it with an axe would be cheaper

some of those things will be cheap, you can get a second hand tyre at a tyre shop, they always have tyres suitable at cheap prices.

Window wipers from Repco
Shock shouldnt be too expensive, i would say go to someone who actually does them all the time, not some monkey in a garage who doesnt and marks it up big time!!!
Rear mount would get done same place as the shock - try the shock shop? do you have them in chch?
 horn would be wiring?
brake lens - do you have a pick a part there?!?!
Hope that gave you some suggestions

Its safer to replace both shocks instead of just the one.

Winz will be sweet - they dont know you're ending in march - they'll send you a letter saying you have to pay X amount per week or nominate the amount.
Make sure you get quotes for the repairs first.

   Thanks for your advice :)
yea they quoted $240 for shocks (is that reasonable, i have no idea about cars) and $150 for engine mount, the rest is smallish stuff but adds up.

just check that the prices they give you are including gst and if thats includes them fitting them for you if not the labour could be the killer.
