Topic: I just went maternity clothes shopping .. Posted: 29 February 2008 at 5:38pm |
I am LOOOVING the maternity clothes even though my body isn't quite ready for them yet. The prices over here are really good, even in the specialty maternity shop (Motherhood). The shopkeeper was really friendly and helpful and let DH go into the changing room with me
I spent US$98 in Motherhood and got:
- two pretty cotton blouses
- a pair of jeans with the 'secret fit belly' that is this stretchy fabric that comes up to your bra-line if you want it to, so there is no obvious seamline where your waist is. the jeans are made for petite people, so I don't have to get them shortened, yay!
- a cotton skirt with 'secret fit belly'
- a stretchy white cami/undershirt
Then I went to Target (department store) and found this black winter maternity coat on sale for $16!!! perfect for winter, when I will be at my laaaaargest.
Anyone else had some fun shopping experiences recently?

Oh yeah!! I went crazy at EGG, spent most of our savings there but SO worth it, I got two pairs jeans, a skirt, some tops etc. And Ive gotten stuff of Trade Me, like I got an EGG jumper that would cost probably about $120 in the store, for $15 off Trade Me!! And its in perfect condition. I have heaps of cute stuff, oh and some things from pumpkin patch aswell!
I LOVE my maternity clothes and i love how my bump looks in them

LOL Mountaingoat I was looking at Motherhood online today.
I bought a couple of pairs of stretchy pants from K and K today and a couple of tops, figured I'd better seeing as I have no pants that don't cut me in half!

Yay I can't wait to be buying maternity clothes! I was at k-mart the other day and admired a couple of tops, then realised they were maternity tops. Thought I'd better not buy them right now (even though they would be nice as 'normal' tops) because I'm sure I'd get even more questions about being pregnant (at the moment at work I get asked if I'm pregnant every time I feel a little unwell, or have a strange dream, or have a food craving...everyone has babies on the brain at my work lol).
Sounds like you got some awesome bargains too!

I went to PP the other day and got a whole bunch of tops and pants in their big sale (everything was between $15- $20 each). It was great becuase everything was in my size (which is extreemly rare) so I went crazy trying everything on. I only have 6 weeks left but couldnt resist a good bargain and they are sooo comfy. I had managed to avoid maternity clothes up untill now.

I did when I was having Andrew. If I get my next one I will be able to have that fun all over again as i'm already a size smaller from when I went with Andrew.

Nope, I dont fit anything available in the shops here, its really pathetic that most maternity clothes only go up to an XL.

Miss Angel - I had a really hard time finding maternity clothes to fit too. If you are in Auckland there is a shop on Williamson Ave in Ponsonby that do new / recycled maternity clothes and they often have some bigger sizes. I ended up buying stuff from the warehouse in bigger sizes, but did manage to get some nice tops from KMart that were a good size (their maternity range)

Sheza, I'm with you on TM. Got a newlife skirt for $40, normally over $125 and I've been drooling over it for ages! I think I'm set with mat clothes till I need long sleeve tops for winter and a pair of work trousers. Mountaingoat, love the sound of your jacket!

I am not even showing yet... but I am IN LOVE with the Mobea stuff. It's such a classic look and I would love some of their clothes for work. I added up my three favourites last night and it came to $265. Eek!! And that was with one item on sale!!
But I think when I get bigger I will splash out on a few REALLY nice pieces and then try to get bargains on TradeMe.
Anyone else find it really frustrating that you can't search by size on TradeMe? I know heaps of people have asked them to make it searchable by Small, Medium, Large, XL etc but they just haven't done it.
Hmmm, maybe I will start a thread and we can all go and add our 2 cents and hopefully change the system? Anyone else keen?

Thats it, i'm buying a bloody sack.
I just went to the warehouse and farmers cuz I have ONE pair of pants that fit me, and you know all they had was jeans, jeans and jeans? friggin great if I could actually wear them, but no. I need a jumper or a cardie or something cuz it's getting cold here now, and my goodness there was nothing! I didnt really expect much at the warehouse cuz they're lame anyway, but farmers - they had 3 that I fit, which is mint cuz the wild child range is good for sizes. One looked like a hospital gown, the second was all synthetic and nasty (not to mention short sleves on cardies O.o wtf?) and the last one that I really liked was 100 bucks. Where can I buy sacks from.

I must be a funny shape or something when pregnant as with Elle I only found 1 pair of maternity trousers that I could wear! I was never big enough for maternity tops.
I put on about 16kgs but it was apparently invisible as no-on believes me. People keep saying I was lucky as I was all bump but there is no way my bump weighed 16Kgs LOL! I exercised as least an hour a day and ate healthily. I usually don't put on weight...always been the same weight but during pregnancy my body suddenly stores everything.
I couldn't wear anything from EGG or Patch I survived with 1 pair of paints and 1 skirt from JK and tops from glassons. YAY! for this seasons long-line tops etc.f

MissAngel have you tried Trade Me? Since Ive been home doin nothing as im on sickness benifit now! Ive been on Trade Me everyday and they have SUCH a good range of maternity clothes in ALL sizes and they are so cheap you could spend like $100 and get heaps of items. Liek I said before, Ive saved SOOOO much buying off trade me

MissAngel, I am also plus sized and I found some super comfy stretchy pants at KandK the other day, I got them from the outlet store so they were even cheaper which was a bonus. I also got 2 pairs of trackies for $30 from there and OMG they are more comfy than my PJ's, and soooo huge that they can go over or under my bump.

excellent ill try K&K.. i havent had success on TM - i'm a size 24, and normal size 24 pants (unless uber stretchy) are hopeless. It just annoys me with these stupid cothing companies except the expensive ones dont cater for larger people. sh*t, ive seen SO MANY fat preggie chicks, i wonder how anyone else does it :(
