hahah that's awesome!
"Like a burrito"
We wrapped Hannah the same way she put the first wrapon... but never thought to put a second on.
I love how the baby is asleep before she's even finished wrapping it!

i am amazed that noone on here knew of that way to swaddle....Mum is an ex midwife from waaaayyyy back and this is THE technique she showed us at birth - and was also the way that any of the indian nurses swaddled Ella at the hospital...
amazing that it isnt obviously being taught by new midwives etc if none of you knew about it....shame really huh?

to Nicci - about how to stop swaddling. I have just got the latest newsletter from The Sleep Store and they mention that they have updated their info on how to 'wean' your baby off being swaddled. Try their website - www.thesleepstore.co.nz - lots of helpful info for all ages and lovely stuff.

I used to swaddle like the first half of the first way - its what my mum used to do - but found that the arms came loose too easily. Then I learned (from Plunket) the Sheeza way which is kinda like the 2nd way but without including the head, and that's totally my favourite way to swaddle!
With Hannah, we used to wrap only one arm in as she was a finger suckler.
With not swaddling, between 6-9mos you wrap them looser and looser during the day until they end up unwrapping themselves by the end of their sleep. If they don't like it, keep swaddling a bit longer. Once they are happy with waking unwrapped and playing with their fingers etc, you can wrap them loosely at nights - and then not at all.

mum had a way that with this method she could even get ella asleep on her side without her tipping either way...formed a ledge under her somehow to even it all out....i could NOT master that....and then i ended up with the baby who slept and would get out of swaddle so i gave up....my way of doing it was not tight enough i dont think....maybe next time...or just let mum do it! LOL

when i was at Bethany there was a housemother who was the BEST at swaddling , I used to always ask her to wrap Caitlyn ,she knew how to do it ...tight, but still breathable ....
Wish i could still swaddle Caitlyn at times......

well i only stopped wrapping vincent when he was 17-18 months old. so there we are. lol.
I kinda used to do it like in hte first clip but with the first wrap. i do mine real tight like she did & never folded the legs up & around as part of the wrap, but did often fold it up over the legs cos it looked cuter. lol. V always wore a hat to bed to keep his lil head warm. i found he would lie on his side & nto move either. midn you, the safety sleep helped. When i weaned him off the wrap, i contact the sleep store & started by only wrapping one arm. we also introduced the sleeping bag at the same time so it was a transition out of one into the other. worked really well.
Wrapping was fantastic for when V was in hospital last year as it meant he didn't try to pull his tubes out & meant he still had a safety around him that was familiar. i wouldn't go anywhere without his wrap. if i had his wrap & his dummy, i was safe to go ANYWHERE! now, it's his dummy & doggy (soft toy).
Sorry, i'm an absolute believer in wrapping. my best friend's first baby wasn't a good sleeper & i always reckoned it was due to not being wrapped. (she calims he would get out of it) This time i started wrapping her lil one as she wouldn't settle. now they wrap her every night as far as i know.
I used to wrap V even in hte buggy if it was sleep time. He knew what it meant & would usually go off easy as.
