Topic: Its a mystery! Posted: 18 August 2006 at 12:32pm |
The strangest thing has happened... someone has delivered a couple of cubic meters of firewood to our house... I didn't order it, and I'm fairly sure Nat didn't either (I'm just waiting for him to come home for lunch so I can check)...
We heard the truck dropping it off (all that wood falling on the ground makes a fairly loud noise!) but I assumed it was at a neighbours... we discovered it when we were headed outside to go and get the gas bottle filled back up... the delivery people didn't knock on our door for payment so I don't know what's going on!

I hope they didn't deliver it to the worng address - it would take them a veeery long time to reload it back on the truck!

Yeah, and I'm not going to start stacking it or anything until I know what's going on! We can't afford to buy it ourselves at the moment, as Nat's just paid off a major dentist bill and I get one of those myself next week. Don't want to do a "finders keepers" to be handed a bill!

did you see which company the truck was from? How odd. That happened to us once but my dad had arranged it as a surprise for us which was nice but he didnt tell us he organised it for like two days!

Kiya (she's home with a cold today) saw it, and said it was a white truck. The problem is, there's two or three different companies around here that deliver firewood by truck, and none of them have logos or names on their vehicles!
I'm wondering if my parents organised it, as Mum asked yesterday if we had any firewood left, but I think they would call or email us to see if it arrived! Its a good thing Kiya is home today, or else I'd be stuck at 3pm when its time to go to the school and get her... the firewood is in our drive in front of the garage, so I can't get the car out!

i hope the firewood is yours, but that is pretty slack of the delivery people to just drop it infront of your garage - what if you had something on or had somewhere you had to be?
when we get firewood delivered they always ask where we want it.

Our place is fully fenced... in front of the garage is the only place they could put it, as those trucks cannot turn sharply enough to put it anywhere else.
When we've ordered firewood, that's always been where we've had it dropped, as then I can close the gates until Nat is home to stack it properly, and nobody can help themselves to a bootful!

LOL maybe Ana!
I wish Nat would hurry up and get home... he didn't come home for lunch today for the first time in two weeks! Still, school finishes at 3:30 and he usually comes straight home on Fridays.

Okay, Nathaniel is home... and just as puzzled by our unexpected firewood! He's pretty sure it wasn't delivered here by mistake (especially as we're the only house in the immediate area that doesn't have the letterbox right by the driveway - ie, everyone else is clearly numbered!)... Nat said it might have been from one of the other teachers as he made a throwaway comment yesterday to someone about how we'd run out of firewood but the gas heater was working really well.

Mystery solved!
Nathaniel and our neighbour Richard got to work and stacked it all... probably close to 5 cubic meters of wood... they were just finishing at 5:30, and Nat was sweeping the rubbish off the driveway (so we can get the car out easily) when this car pulled up... turns out, it WAS a delivery to the wrong address!
It was supposed to go to the people across the road (#30), but the guy didn't look in his book properly and when his business partner said "Its for #36" the delivery guy said "Nah, it's for #35!" and dropped it off here!
He said we can buy it off him, at a cheaper rate, and that we can pay him in the next couple of weeks... so that's what we're going to do. Only problem is most of it is quite wet... we may just let it sit in the woodshed until next winter to season properly, and continue using the heater just to keep the chill off.

Oh, what a blow! At least they are going to do you a deal so that your hard work won't go to waste.
I can't believe it is too wet to use though You wouldn't be that happy if you really needed it now!

Bugger that you have to pay for it - but at least you get to keep it! That'll teach the delivery guy for not knocking on the door first!
