Hi everyone, this is my first time here and although it sucks we're all here because of struggles with fertility, I'm so pleased to have found a group of people who I can share the ups and downs with.

Plumbum – you asked for some feedback on various fertility specialists in Auckland. Here’s a brief overview of the experience we had with FA in Auckland. We spent several thousands of dollars over a 2 year period with FA undergoing private treatments while we were on the IVF waiting list, and were really disappointed with our experiences. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to name the specialist - he's a nice guy but looking back on the many appointments we had with him, we were seriously rushed through each visit and I felt like an anxious control freak when I wanted to ask a question. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have sat in his office and asked and asked until I got the answers I was seeking (whether I liked the answers or not!).   I guess I didn’t know what questions to ask and with him being the specialist we merely went along with each treatment plan he put forward. Having had no success with multiple cycles of Clomid and then multiple IUI’s with Gonal F we were finally called up to commence our first public funded IVF cycle with Fert+ in July 2011. The difference between our experiences between the two companies has been like night vs day. Fert+ have been just incredible. They share information every step of the way and are completely open and honest.

Honeybun38 – I’ve unfortunately learnt that my body doesn’t respond to the drugs well either. I’ve been on 20u of Buserelin and 250iu of Gonal F and I’ve grown only 5 follicles in 16 days which is verrrry slow. Of the 5 follies the clinic has said maybe only 3 of these are viable. At one point I asked whether the clinic would cancel this cycle due to the poor response – the nurse gently explained that they wouldn’t cancel this cycle as my body would most likely respond in the same manner next time. They could increase my Gonal F levels slightly but the nurse said it would make little difference although I’m not yet sure why. The news still hasn’t sunk in properly. This is the first time anyone has ever mentioned that I have an ‘issue’. I’m putting on a brave face and being as positive as I can with this cycle. If we’re not successful then we will sit down with the FS and learn more about it all.

Sorry about the big bleat and moan....but it feels good to get it off my chest.

My heart goes out to elpis, rosiefarmer and others.

Welcome sezzy. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences with FA, I had a specialist who was the same, was it Sunil pillay you had cause that's who I had. I felt like he always rushed us through and didn't care much about our bfn after our 1st round of ivf. I tried asking him several questions as to why we weren't successful but he didn't wanna hear my questions.
Sorry to hear you haven't been responding well to the drugs so far. It's such a hard journey isn't it. All the ladies here are lovely and so so supportive, we all have slightly different backgrounds but we are all after the same goal and it's great to hear all the different experiences and advice while riding the ivf rollercoaster. We have a private Facebook group if you want to join too. Let us know if you wanna join

Hi Sezzy - welcome. I am also a very slow/poor responder. First cycle 9 eggs - 3 embies transferred (2 ET); second cycle 6 eggs - 3 embies transferred (2 ET); third cycle - 3 eggs - 1 transferred. I've always been on 300 Gonal-F and they do say having more wouldn't make any difference. Each cycle I've been on stim drugs for at least 5 days longer than 'typical' with extra scans and BT's. Don't be put off by my stats though, we are heading to cycle 4 (public funded this time), and it does only take one
5 IVF/ICSI Cycles - 10 embryo's, 8 transfers, all BFN's.
Our journey to parenthood is over, and we join the unfortunate many for whom IVF does not work.

Elpis I am so so sorry for the behaviour of that man!!! Makes me so angry he deserves a good slap in the face, how dare he!
I hope for you that your baby is still growing strong and next week you'll see your little miracle. The hard part about this IVF thing is that usually someone knows and telling them can be as hard as finding out yourself. Look after you first, you are the most important thing. Take care. Much love honey xxx

Welcome sezzy21 - it only takes one. Fxd for this cycle for you.

Mac - have a great transfer fxd that this is your time too.

I turned my calender over today - had written on it 1/2 way, talk about a smack in the guts. DH has kindly twinked it out. But have a real sick feeling now. Heading to Dunedin today to sort out DS rent agreement, as he isnt 18 yet he needs a guardian to sign his forms. Ohhh and needs the money for bond and he also suggested we went grocery shopping (wonder whos paying for that???) Tough life been a student. Oh well hopefully he'll get a well paid job when he finishes his course.

Hope everyone has a great week, some transfers happening, and I think we are waiting on some BT. Good luck ladies. xxx

Thanks everyone I am going for my scan tomorrow am really stressed about it as I find I am in a good place now but will be horrible to go through it all again. My Blood results were really good and I still feel really crappy in the afternoons, AF would have been due on Sunday and nothing yet so if I was going to miscarry I would have then I thought. This has been a long week and a 1/2.

Hi Tischler... in answer to your question here goes...
yep had our appointment and we were most disappointed! They did not take ANY responsiblity at all - now Dr saying I may of had "empty follicles" however on the day of EC apparently the same Dr said it looked like i had ovulated just prior! why the change of mind??? hmmm

We are extremely upset and even wrote them a letter and sent by email before our appoint so we could talk about it. They sort of brushed this issue off and did not even mention a discount or refund
I have had another BT for AMH test (see how many eggies left) and praying that all ok. My last AMH was oct 09 was 1.4 (or 10) which was ok at the time so hopefully i still got time and good eggs left!

We have just had a 2nd opinion by a phone conference with Dr Gudex from Repromed Akl - he was lovely and seemed to have some suggestions moving forward. DH is keen to check them out this time and do a cycle with them - antagonist cycle. Even though AKL is a bit further it may be well worth a go as getting nowhere with FAH.

The amount of money, time, energy and the emotional rollercoaster of our 2-3 years of this ivf journey has been terrible! Praying for a miracle for sure!!!!!

Anyone got any comments on their dealings with REPROMED in particular Auckland?? Love to hear them :)

xx

Hi just wondering if I can join this group? We had our 2nd appointment yesterday and will be starting a private IVF/ICSI cycle in next couple of months. We already have a 2 year old who we conceived naturally and easily so was a bit of a shock at our first appointment a few months ago to find out we have problems while TTC #2. I haven't read though previous posts yet but will now start making my way through them.

Hi Mary, How are you going?
I don't like the idea of a facebook group so I am still lurking here and I see that noone has replied to you.
I am happy to be a sounding board for you in this forum if you like.
I am currently on a break from IVF cycles and due to start again on my day 1 on October.
