What a night ! Or I should say, what a morning

Last night itself was good, and then I slept reasonably well without turning over much. Dreamed that I'd won $445 million on a scratchie ticket LMAO

Woke up however, and had a visit from the leg-cramp fairy - boy is she a mean b*tch !! I went to just _gently_ stretch my legs and WHAM, full of knots and I can't properly describe how much it hurt... but I started to cry which is when Rols started to panic, and being the lovely man he is tried to help rub them out.

This isn't the first time I've had them, but they were the worst so far this morning. Anyone else? And you'd think that stretching would help get *rid* of them, not make them worse !!

So then I get up to go to the loo, and *nothing*. I think Paws will get the whole "feel like you're busting, then pee a millimetre" thing. However, something else started running and I figured it was just a snotty nose - but no, my schnoz had started to bleed. Again, not wanting to do anything by halves, it *really* bled Sat there for a good five minutes with that one, and finally relaxing with a cup of tea as I write this. Once more, has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bad sign?

Sorry for being such a big whinger, I feel like that's all I do as a pregnant lady sometimes

Next time you get a leg cramp, try pointing your toes upwards instead of pointing them downwards - it should stop the cramp straight away

yup, i've had both cramps and blood noses, same with my first pregnancy. no fun at all huh? apparently bananas and tonic water (both seperate remedies) are good for the leg cramps, i haven't tried either as yet so can't back them up, but can relate to the whole crying unable to move with them! the bleeding noses is apparently due to the extra blood circulating round your body, same as gums bleeding when you brush your teeth, but if it happens a lot or for an extended period you should contact your midwife. (thanks to good old shiela kitzinger for that info )hope you're feeling better now jax, go out and buy a scratchie in case your dream was premonitious!!

Bananas are good if your cramps are caused by a lack of potassium, and tonic water is good if your cramps are caused by a lack of salt (specifically the quinine in salt).

I'd say my salt / potassium intake is pretty average, I eat a lot of fruit including bananas, and try not to overdo it with salt but do use it with cooking and things.

With the nosebleeds, they only seem to crop up once a month or so, didn't used to have them so often. If it gets worse, I will definetly give my midwife a ring !

I'll try the soda water thing because we are going out for groceries later on today, but half the problem was that they happened almost as soon as I woke up and I couldn't move Had my toes pointed up instead of down, because pointing them down only seemed to make the cramps worse. My leg still feels sore and knotted, but not as painful as this morning.

No headache anymore though, I have Mr Panadol to thank for that ! In a way I'm thankful that I seem to manage feeling rotten on my days off when I can just blob, relax and sleep it off. At the same time though, I do still catch myself feeling annoyed with the other pg girl at my work who in my eyes (and admittedly my view may be distorted) has had loads of time off because she has been feeling really unwell (first trimester for her).

However, I will be buying a scratchie ticket or two for sure when we go out this afternoon, I can only hope LMAO

I remember sitting on the toilet and getting a blood nose, I sat there for a good 10mins as I had a good supply of toilet paper to catch the blood. I use to get a blood nose at least once a month but not sure what caused it, my midwife seemed to think it was normal but she was hopeless so if you're worried check with your midwife next time you see her.
I know what those cramps feel like as well, I just grinned and beared it, but did figure out that sometimes they were caused by how I was sleeping. Stick a rolled up towel at the end of your bed under the mattress where your feet are, to elevate your legs, it helps with the blood flow and cramps.

Will try and remember that bit about having my legs a bit more elevated, cheers !

Almost feels now like when I used to pull a muscle doing sport or something

Unfortunately, I do have to report that I didn't win anything with my scratchies LOL Maybe next time

I used to get wicked cramps in my feet with Maya, especially when it was col. Ouch! Am sending you sympathies Jax!
Blood noses are relatively common in pregnancy, but can be a sign of low or very high blood pressure so maybe just mention it to your midwife next time you see her.

Thanks Emma, have been having funny pains in my feet too now that you mention it, but they don't always coincide with the leg cramps - and don't seem to be "as" bad.

With the blood nose it reminds me of that metallic taste in your mouth that has come up on another thread - but worse ! Had one more small one today after I sneezed really hard, but that didn't last long, except I can still taste it a little even after dinner

Definitely going to keep this in mind to mention at my next midwife visit, although I might have more luck in getting something done about it if I tell my "new" midwife at my first visit with her on the 11th of April - I have my last visit with the other one on the 28th.

Mmm yeah quite possibly ! Had another tiny one today, didn't run *out* of my nose, just went to blow it and a little was on the tissue (sorry about TMI !). Interestingly enough, my blood pressure has been normal at both visits with my midwife so far.

Hi
I had a terrible cramp in my calf on Friday night - I was asleep on the couch, and woke up with it. In my groggy state i couldnt figure out what it was, but it hurt so much i started to cry. Then by accident i put my heal on the ground and that stretched it and it stopped, thank god. Ive never had cramp like that before and im glad to know its quite normal. I had been for a hilly walk that afternoon so that may have had something to do with it.

I remember reading that you should limit your banana intake if you are pregnant - has anyone else heard this? I'm not sure why. If they are OK I'm going to get some.

i've never heard that, but if you eat a lot of bananas it can make you gassy and constipated so it would make sense to limit them....

I used to get both!

Early on in my pregnancy (about 15 weeks) I experienced 6 blood noses in three days!!! It was terrible. I got really panicy about it towards the end and just rang my midwife who said it is very common in pregnant woman and not to worry unless they are bleeding for longer than 15 minutes, at which point we are meant to go to A&E and get it stopped. I never got that bad and now I havent had one again since.

Leg Cramps. I always get these in the night! They wake me up and I am in agony. I find the best way to get rid of them is to stand up. I just jump out of bed and stand on my leg and its stops. Phew!
