Topic: Maternity bras Posted: 05 May 2010 at 2:45pm |
I need to find maternity bra's I can wear for my 3rd trimester and then breastfeeding afterwards.
Where do I go to find any, what do you recommend and what are the costs like?
I am in my last fitting bra now so need to start looking.
A friend recommended these but there arent any NZ stockists: http://www.bravadodesigns.com/

I got all my maternity bra's/singlets from Kmart, all were about $25-30, as opposed to spending $50+ on 'branded' items.
Depends what you're after really...

Thanks Nicole!
Dont care one bit about brands, just hoping for something that can "grow" with me because I think I probably have another cup size to go, and something that unclips for easy breastfeeding

Depends on your size too..
Belly beyond
Breastmates
Avokado
And then theres farmers.
Theres loads of different brands, some work better for smaller busts, some work better for bigger..

I'm a massive fan of HotMilk bras - yet i'll only buy them when they're on sale or off trademe - they're far too expensive new! So so comfy. I've been in them since week 18 and tbh I dont think I could go back to ever wearing underwires after these bras. *bliss*

I've just been through the process of getting my maternity/feeding bras... I went and got properly fitted for my size and then just tried heaps and heaps on as each 'make and model' fits slightly differently.
I ended up getting a Bendon style at Farmers - for $16!!! (but that was a special on a reduced price - but got one in each of the colours available so bras worth $90 for $32... lucky I know).
Currently I am in one of my HotMilk ones and I agree with MissAngel, fantastic and soooooooooo comfortable! I got a couple different styles through Maternity Direct website, both cheaper than the rest so I think they're end of line or something (about $25 I think).
It really does pay to shop around a bit.

I'm just about to get refitted now as mine are starting to get too big. I brought the ones I have now from farmers they are strtch cotton and very comfy, they have heaps of room to move and aren't padded. They are triumph I think and only cost about $20 on sale.

I got fitted at Avocado for a hot milk bra, and then bought a couple of other ones of their brand in sales on line. They are so comfy (I was a D start with), and like MissAngel, I don't know how I will go back to underwires!
You could always try one of the Bendon factory shops too? I got a $20 Bendon Maternity bra from one of them the other week.

Breastmates has good deals on their hotmilk bras. One thing I can say for hotmilk is that their bra's last! If you are not sure about fit, just email Fran, she's great!
Every single bendon mother love one I bought the straps went all weird.

I love Fran! Shes so lovely :D They do a range of normal bras without the clips on if you want to keep wearing them afterwards :D They're easy to adjust to non-nursers anyway. Breastmates seem to be the cheapest out of all the online retailers and you dont need a CC with them!

I got all mine from Kmart for $15-20 but the straps seem to have stretched (???). They are on the shortest length possible but they keep slipping off my shoulders. They used to be fine tho but now they just don't fit well at all. Think I might need to go buy myself some decent ones like HOTMilk or something. Will have to wait till they are on sale tho, can't afford them at full price!

Head over to Dressmart in Onehunga, the lingerie shops there always have racks of maternity bras on sale - Womama, Hot Milk, Bendon etc. I bought mine there for less than $20.

I got a few Hot milk bras from the essence outlet for $20 each and the rest from farmers. They are always having sales so you can get them for about 30% off. Check out trademe aswell, there are often brand new or barely worn bras for sale there.

I have been going through the same thing knowing that the bras that you wear in the begining of BF are fairly ruined once feeding and boobs have settled. I refuse to spend the amount that the branded bras are when I know what condition they will end up in and that they may not fit when baby is about 3mths old. Loveable make a fairly sturdy bra that isnt that sexy BUT will get you through and brand new is only $40. It depends on your size but I am a big girl and need something INDUSTRIAL as opposed to hot and cute! Good luck on your search
