Sorry to hear about your Grandfather, Heaf. I lost my last remaining grandparent, my Nana, in November last year. Even though she hadn't been well for a while it was still hard. After she passed decided that if baby was a girl she'd have Nana's name as part of hers.

Our newbies are starting to even out the gender numbers a little.

I get the 'are you hoping for a girl' too. People get a bit taken aback when I say not really as I already have one.

I bought one of these LINK capsules off Trademe and it arrived today. I am a bit confused about it. I can't find a manufacture/expiry date anywhere on it. It says it fits babies up to 13kg in it. We tried DS in it and hes just under 11kg and is waaaay too big. And I'm a bit unsure about the ECE regulation thingy. There is no NZ Safety sticker on it anywhere. Any thoughts?

I saw the obstitrician today. I have a provisional date of 11/5/11. But it hasn't been booked yet as it will depend how things go. All going well I'll see him again at 34ish weeks. To be honest he seemed a bit clueless. I had to tell him how to get the May calender up on his computer and he had no idea about my previous experiences with collistasis.

I hope everyone survives the rain.

fallen thats strange, I thought they were suppose to have a manufactuer sticker on them could you call into a plunket and see what they say?? Actually I think there is a carseat expert on Ohbaby in the expert section so maybe send her a email and see what she says.

Is that a date for a Csection?

here is my 27week pic...had a bit of a growth spurt since 23 weeks!

I did think of going into Plunket but they won't be open until Tuesday due to the long weekend here. I'll try the OB expert. Thank you.

Yes, date for the c/s.

SO Sorry to hear about your grandad Heaf. Big hugs.

Fallen, that is odd about the caspule. Why don't you ring plunket line they should know.

J is in his big bed for the first time tonight. Wasn't too bad once we got the excitment and the trampolining out of his system. Not a peep since 7.30!! Not looking forward to the morning though!!

i don't know much but have never heard of a capsule for 13 kg let alone one that is forward facing. good idea to check with an expert.

I hope there is no flooding - seems like the rain keeps getting worse though. Its our last long weekend in a while aucklanders!

Ugh....heartburn has come back and little girl jumping on something, like my liver or something. I can see rolls and pokes from the outside as of this week, tried to get c to feel but he's too impatient.

Sorry about your gdad heaf.....

Oh Heaf! I'm sorry to hear about your loss, my Grandad passed a couple of years back, it was soo hard for me.. I hope that the funeral is sooner rather than later.

Nice bump pic noodle! every once in a while I look in the mirror and have this weird feelingit's not me looking back 'cos of my belly!

I love the rain, its very relaxing! my our house gets quite damp and in a room with 5 computers and a dehumidifyer going (yes, the boys are still here... I just fed them all..) it gets quite stuffy! Worked this afternoon too, I just have to do next friday and then only Sundays until the end of Feb. Everything at work felt damp and the fly strips in the entrance of the fridge were all moist.. it's like being licked every time you go in there :(

Planning a date with Hubby tomorow, we have movie tickets... he really wants to see Tangled (yes, the Disney one haha) so we may go see that :)

Hope everyone has a lovely night!

Oh, anyone have any tips for leg cramps? before I would only get it in one leg and once I lept out of bed and walked around a little bit, it would go away.. but now it's both legs and the pain is so intense!! and it stays all day, I end up limping everywhere and it's frustrating!!
I've upped my calcium, potatssium and sodium (different suggestions I've heard/read) and they're getting worse..

i always thought it was magnesium? maybe pop into a pharmacy, we have a homeopathic one here which is nice to get a diff opinion, esp as there's so much we need to avoid.

Cramps and pins & needles will be with us for a while now as baby sits on nerves. I've already got the extra pillows in my bed, the one under my knees is helping atm.

Neighbours house alarm just went off which has me on edge as someone in our street got robbed the other day. Their alarm is on the ranch slider so looks like wind may have moved it...phew....

So sorry to hear about your Grandad heaf. It's such a sad time to lose Grandparents. We try and spend lots of time with mine (both still here thankfully) and they just adore Lily, always playing crazy games with her. She's the only great-grandchild they have living in NZ.
Love the bump noodle! Looks fabulous :)
Ooh, I want to see Tangled too Keolyn, hehe. But I think I'll wait until it's on Sky. Lily will probably enjoy it but I'm not paying $15 (for me) if she'll only sit still for an hour! And I've been getting leg cramps. Not too bad, just ones I need to stretch out a bit for. ALways in bed though and friggen annoying at that.
I always used to watch 'From Here to Maternity'! Loved it. But it made me cry when they had the babies, silly pregnancy and new mum hormones! Now it make me cross my legs and cringe, lol. Oh god, and I'm doing it all again!!\
Have just sent DH out for croissants and coffee for our breakfast. He better hurry up, I'm getting hungry!
Hope those of you getting the bad weather are all safe and sound. Had a call from my sister this morning, she lives in Egypt and they are having big protests over there at the moment. The govt have shut down the internet to stop the protestors communicating and their phone/texting services are also being affected. Crazy Egyptians! But she lives in a resort town so said they are safe and sound which is good. I hate it when my family and friends are in places where bad things are happening. Makes me appreciate NZ a lot more!
Sorry but now I've forgotten what I read earlier. Have a great weekend!

Keolyn,

I had heard eating bananas helps (for potassium), but my friend who just had a baby spoke to her OBGYN about leg cramps and was told she simply needed to drink more water, she asked about magnesium, potassium etc but the lady was adament she just needed to increase her water. I had a terrible cramp the other night - but I figured it was actually due to the fact I wore wedges out all night to a wedding and my poor little pregnant legs couldn't handle it. Flats all the way now!

We were incredibly flooded last night, my hubby and I were out in the rain til 10.30pm clearing drains of leaves and other debris to try to get it all flowing away but way to much rain to cope.

My bubs is having a sleep in today too. I just wanna poke him/her awake but really shouldn't get into that habit, don't know much about newborns but I'm guessing you don't just wake them whenever you want. haha

Hey everyone.. thnks for the tips about the cramps, I may go talk to someone about it.. I know some things can't be helped but my leg is still sore from the night before last and now, I don't know whaether its related, but the circulation went in my left hand this morning and even though I can move it now and have feeling, its painful to even type..*sigh

Lafemme, I hope your flooding has cleared up! we have some unsightly weeds growing on our gutters and it makes the deck a tretcherous place during a storm!!

Lol at your bubs not like being talked about.. I think mines the same.. but she woke me up with her kicking this morning, and something she was moving last night really really hurt!! If ever I say 'ow!' Hubby gets stressed, but I normally follow it up with 'bubs is at her recital' cos we come froma family of dancers lol

Its almost sunny here.. might take hubby for a driving lesson *gulp* wish me luck!

Hope you are all having a good night!

DH put the cot up :) and learnt MIL is not only going to make us a mattress for our bassinet but she's also going to make one for the cot! big relief.

Just a couple of questions i thought you experienced mums might be able to help me with...
A friend said if your using a foam mattress that they can't be too soft...just wondering why?
also wondering why when using milk other then bfing why does it need to be heated? does it kill bugs or do babies just prefer it warm?

Hi All,

Megan - on the milk front if you are talking about formula it is because if it is cold it does not mix properly and sits like concrete in their little tummies and hurts. If you are talking cows milk which is what me DD has now it is simply because she likes it that way. Have tried it cold with no success so far.

I currently seem to be carrying around a soccer player so I am seriously starting to think boy as my DD was never this wriggly or kicking so often.

We went out and bought all of the wood and mattress today for DD's new set of bunks ready for her to move into a big girl bed to free up the cot for the new addition. Was $600 for the wood and fittings but worth it for a solid piece of furniture.

Off to the garage now to play with the drop saw. Not sure if my tummy should also have ear muffs on? :)

Catch you all later!

Heaf, sorry to hear about your grandad

Fallen, I can't remember what weight our capsule was good for, but it was too small length before the weight became an issue. What I find funny about the add is that it says 'Forward facing installed in the car' other than the grammar, aren't capsule supposed to be rear facing only?

I'm also wondering how some of you (fallen/tigercub/noodle) have OB appointments already? My MW said I'd be referred about 34 weeks (DS was CS).

Keolyn - just saw a thing on leg cramps on 'what's good for you', most frequent causes include dehydration, low minerals calcium/potassium/sodium/magnesium (dark green leafy vege / milk / most nuts (excl peanuts)), best advice - to spite the pain stretch a.s.a.p. and heat pack (not that I'm likely to get out of bed to get a heat pack in the middle of the night). Pregnant woman - it's usually calcium & magnesium. Sounds like you're doing all that so not much help - sorry.

Maybe it's something in the air. Jr has been very very quite all day. I tried the glass of ice water trick because I was getting worried - 1 or 2 kicks that was all i got. I've had a couple of wee squishes though out the day, and he woke up and kicked me during dinner (don't know if it was 'yum' or 'yuck' - lol) but overall very quite on the baby front. I was going to ask when I should get really worried?

Megan - there was a really good article in this months Treasures magazine about formula feeding - there is not a lot of good info on it as FF is a 'bad word'. Babies like it warm, body temp.
As for the mattress - no idea. I've been told a few times that porta-cot mattress aren't good long term so you need a 'propper cot' but again, don't really know why. (I've been wondering if we can put one of the kids in the porta-cot if DS isn't ready for a bed when jr needs the cot)
