QuoteReplyTopic: Midwife Recommendations Napier/ Hawke's Bay Please Posted: 11 September 2013 at 8:36pm
Hi there, I am a kiwi abroad and have just found out I am 5-6 weeks pregnant. I am planning to return home (Napier) a month before I'm due to have baby so I can be around family, friends and lots of support for the first month. Can anyone please recommend midwives with excellent reputations? I have heard in the past of so many "bad" midwives... I am already an extremely anxious person when it comes to this sort of thing.
I need a midwife who is not afraid to give pain relief and anything else that will keep me calm, safe and happy when the time comes. I am not a biggy on natural is best - just whatever will make things easier and safe.
I have heard that Annie Price from Meeanee Midwives is very good. I am from Hastings so know those midwives better - can definitely recommend Rizwaana Latiff at Hastings Midwives on Williams St.
I do think you will find it harder to find a midwife to transfer to a month before your due date, but not impossible. I have a friend who did it without trouble. The hospital midwives are great too. Somewhere on the forum is a 'recomend your midwife' post, there are a few more HB ones on there. Hope you find someone that you really take to!
We moved back to HB A couple of months before we had our first child and couldn't find an independent midwife so had to go with the hospital midwifes, they were all fantastic I had one midwife for all my prenatal appointments then had a wonderful midwife deliver Hannah and do most of my postnatal care (I'm hoping to get her to be my second midwife for my home birth with num 4). I was quiet anxious about not knowing who would end up delivering but I couldn't of asked for a better experience. Good luck!
